Why is it that so much of our tax dollars go into removing drunk drivers from out streets yet, anyone can go into any bar(atleast where it is permitted) drink a few and walk right out on to the street??? What would you do to correct this inconsistancy???

Why is it that many cities and states have banned smoking in public places, yet anyone of legal age can still buy cigarettes that are legally manufactured and distributed in this country?

Why is it that most states require almost all drivers to wear seat belts because they claim it saves lives - yet seat belts are NOT required to be installed on a school bus??

Why is it that automobiles are required to have seat belts, head rests, and air bags installed to protect drivers and passengers from injury, yet most states don't require (or, at least, enforce) the use of motorcycle helmets???

Nobody said legislators were smart. They simply pass the laws lobbyists want passed - usually because it means big money - and big profits - for their clients. And lawmakers are easily bribed. -RKO- 10/05/07

I don't think that there is any inconsistency. The fact of the matter is if you are too drunk to be walking out in public you can be arrested for being drunk in public. I've arrested many a folk for doing just that....being drunk in public and not driving a vehicle.

Our system of laws are designed to protect us from each other and from ourselves (from time to time). If you are walking around drunk you may injure yourself or cause injury to others as they seek to avoid you (you are walking in the street and someone swerves to miss you with a car and gets hurt when the car crashes into a tree).

Obviously the same situation is true when you get behind the wheel of a car and you are impaired due to drinking....only then you are operating a 2 ton vehicle and you are impaired.

I heard that here in Canada that the police sometimes sit in the parking lots of bars and watch for drunks going to their cars. I think that's a good idea.

So what do you propose? Closing the bars and punishing those who obey the law because some cannot?
