The company for whom you work not only screwed up your paycheck, but are screwing themselves up, too.
What they have done is totally illegal.
Visit your local department of labour and report them.
NOW sooner not later.
They will have to come before a hearing, cancel your suspension and pay you a settlement all going well.

Why did they suspend you for a week? How did they screw up your paycheck? If the Georgia Dept. of Labor says the employer did not do anything illegal I would guess you have your answer as to what you can do. If you worked hours then they need to pay you for the hours worked. They don't have to pay you for time you don't work, even with a doctor's note.

Well, the only think you can really do is go to the labor board because if you go in there and tell them they may file harassment claim... From what you say it sounds fishy... But if this is a mom and pop type place they can do what they feel like and if you don't have a contract or manual then you have nothing to go by... But like the lady above me said it best it depends on how many days other than this occurrence you have been out...

I think there's more to this story. How long have you worked there? How frequently have you been out sick?

I have a sister-in-law who ranted and raved and wanted to file a wrongful termination suit. She'd only worked for this place 8 months and had out sick more than 15 days. She doesn't like me too much cause I told her I'd have fired her a whole lot sooner.

There's not nearly enough information here. If your company has a handbook that explains employee benefits, take a look there. Look for FMLA, sick days, paid time off, short term disability, STD. Call the HR department, or personnel or whoever handles that kind of stuff. If all else fails, call a lawyer.

First, you have to file for a sick leave, meaning you have to apply it with corresponding documentations, like doctors certificate, etc., but this is always after the fact. However, if you called in sick during your sickness you should not have been suspended for absence without leave (AWOL).

They gotta have proof of how many hours you work and then they have to sit down and talk about it with you.
