I don't recommend using a file-sharing program to get music files due to the possibility of getting a virus. It is time to start paying for each download. I am using Wal-Mart Music Downloads. Also, don't count on the websites with dirt cheap music downloads. Chances are they're from another country and they only accept another form of currency besides the U.S. dollar.

LimeWire doesn't crash computers, but it does use a lot of CPU so it does slow your computer down; but all file sharing programs like LimeWire does that. It is oppose to be illegal for people to do that but it isn't like you are putting these songs onto to disk to sell are you? I've been using it for a long time and I don't have any problems with it.

About the legal problems.. even if you have paid for limewire even if not, the only fact that you are downloading something from it is illegal, but it`s unlikely to have any problems. As for viruses on limewire that`s the real problem, people share viruses under the name of most searched files. I reccomend : DON`T even look at files that are applications (.exe) and smaller than a few Mb and don`t download ANY archived files (99.(9)% it contains a virsus that will spread in your computer in just a few seconds without you even noticing).
So, don`t download archives and any files that are verry small especially apps.

Yes most likely some of the files you get from Limewire come with viruses too. You will need to 1st use a decent Anti Virus prog to scan your PC, try the 30 day free trial for Microsofts recommended AV 'Trend Micro PC-cillin 2007' get it from this link : http://www.trendmicro.com/download/trial/trial-pcc.asp : As for P2P apps if you must use one then Limewire is probably the safest, but every time you download a file you MUST scan it 1st before testing, opening or running it. Unless you are making pirate CD's and selling them on, it's unlikely the big guns will come after people like you.

I've been using peer 2 peer sites like torrents etc for ages without any problems. Then someone suggested Limewire. The first time I used it I downloaded one album and 12 viruses. I doubt I'll be using it again.

In theory; Yes, you could be prosecuted because you're stealing music.
In practice; It's unlikely to happen to you so carry on downloading just don't go crazy with it. So one person out of the thousands, maybe even millions on P2P users has been fined....so what, people don't say "oh somebody died in a car crash last week I'm never driving again!" do they?
This girl was also a bigtime UPLOADER those are the people who need to watch their backs.
Keep it in perspective.
I can think of much better reasons to stop using limewire...viruses and spyware are much more of a threat to the P2P user than the law.

I know several people who have used limewire and they have all had computer problems sooner or later. One colleague downloaded masses of stuff for free, got a virus, her son managed to sort it out, but told her not to use it for at least another 6 months because there really is somebody out there, somewhere, who can track what you're doing. It just isnt worth the risk. I use iTunes and pay for what I want to download. 79p a track, it's not exorbitant.

If you use limewire, you are stealing. Its the same as going to your local Walmart and sticking a CD in your pocket and walking out.

You should be worried about being sued, but then again you should embrace your punishment and be sorry for doing wrong.

There is no "free" download tool that is legal, shame you.
