To the user who compared prices in Israel to prices in the UK, remember that in Israel salaries are often 1/2-1/4 what they are in the UK. Effectively, people in Israel pay 2-4 times what people in the UK do for gas.
Many people in Israel definitely drive cars (which are also very expensive), but many times these are provided to them by their employers. Public transportation in Israel is generally not a very efficient and convenient way of getting around, so cars are a necessity here.

to your question: - It's because of the government they take a part of the gas price and that's why it's expensive and of course because we don't get it directly, but it's expensive anywhere around the world. and yeah it's true it's expensive but then again, everything is close, and there's also diesel, and hybrid cars so you don't have to waste so much gas, but they are still not so popular maybe in 2008 more people will buy them then today.
people afford the gas because they want to drive so they make less expenses on other stuff and buy gas.
almost every family has a car.. every1 here has a car except a lot of old people that can't drive because they have disabilities such as Sight, hearing u know, and except for some religios parts of israel where they have poor neighbourhoods, and of course the newer you are to israel such as the etheopian new olim, they I presume don't have cars in each family but eventually they will.

Oh god! If we have this price in Egypt, i guess it's better for people to sell their cars. Because when you multiply 6*5.56 = 33.36L.E!!! And the gas's gallon here is about 1.30L.E
so from about 1.30 to 33.36!! i guess people would buy just 1 gallon to burn themselves!!
I don't know how they could afford gas in Israel maybe they'll prefer riding a bike, it's healthier!

There is good public transportation, and it's not like the US where a family of 4 has 4 cars... people do drive cars, but a bit less (I can only speak for Jerusalem, where I lived, and it's a capital city so obviously really difficult to drive anyway)... but it's not that bad it's a small country lol

$6.00 a gallon, so what in the United Kingdom it works out to around $7.50 a gallon...
... stop your moaning...
and in case you want to work it out.
It is about £0.92 a liter - There is just short of 4 liters to the gallon. So four gallons = £3.68 and £3.68 is around $7.50.
