No! Neutering will never take the place of training, in your dog's case, housetraining, nor will it help a hyper dog. Your dog's hyper for a reason - not enough exercise, perhaps combined with no mental stimulation makes for a very bored dog. Try more exercise, do some obedience, teach him some tricks, do something to keep his mind occupied. (And by the way, dogs don't make messes in the house because they're "angry"!)

Neutering gets rid of the hormones. That will help when he becomes an adult and won't be so aggressive to other dogs. It will also make him stay home and not wander looking for a female.
As yours is already of breeding age neutering him will not take the aggression away at first. He will within a few months calm down. As for still ''going'' in the house. Crate his back side. Let him out to ''go'' and after, and I mean only after, he's ''gone'' let him go in the house. This is not acceptable behavior. When he's done things the way you want, tell him what a good boy he is in your best baby voice. That will make him happy. And believe me, you want him happy.

1. If you get him neutered it may calm him down (you need to get him neutered anyway if you care about his health and safety) 2. Did you do any research on shelties before getting one? They are extremely high-energy dogs who are also really intelligent, and so they *have* to get a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. Without the proper amount of activity it doesn't matter if you neuter your dog, because his basic, innate needs still aren't being met and he will continue to be hyper and potentially destructive.

I believe that it all depends on the breed as to whether it will calm him down or not. I have a cairn that was neutered at 5 months of age and that has not calmed him down at all. Whenever he sees a larger dog he is anxious to show who is boss, and it isn't them. He gets plenty of exercise and attention so it's not that he is bored. Guess he just has a male testerone thing going on in his head. As for a dog messing in the house because he is angry, no it won't solve the problem because you need to work on the house breaking issue. Dogs have other ways of showing you that they are angry or upset with you.

Yes it does help some. But.. cockers are very , shall we say, "on the go"... he is getting to a more mature age right now so he should calm some, but neutering does help too. As far as house training, I had to just keep consistant and patient with mine (both of them). They are very stubborn! Good luck! Having another animal (cat or dog) also seemed to help me with mine.

I think it probably should have been done when he was 6 or 7 months old. I had a dog that I got neutered later and it didn't help that problem at all. Good luck. It's worth a try.

I have a male minature schnauzer. he was very hyper. Neutering really did make him calmer. Also. he stopped peeing inside to mark his territory.
