I'm not sure what the dentist who commented was thinking, but one comment was not correct. You will need a shot whether the filling is on the bottom or top teeth. Also, nobody uses novacaine anymore. I'm just confused by his answer and I think he didn't read it all.
Anyways, here's my answer to your question. It will feel like a pinch. They put a numbing gel on first so you don't even feel the needle go in. When they inject the anesthetic you may feel a tingling or burning sensation. The number of shots will depend on which tooth and where the teeth are located. On a bottom tooth, they will only numb one side of your face. When working on a back, bottom tooth it will feel like your face is really swollen and half your tongue will be numb and feel huge too. The size of your face/lip/tongue does not change...it just feels huge when you're numb. That's totally normal.
Occasionally, your heart may speed up a bit during the shot. That's a reaction to the epinephrine and it normal. Also, sometimes you can get like an electric shock feeling through your cheek or tongue during a lower tooth injection. That's okay, they just brushed the nerve is all. It just makes you jump. Don't worry, the dentist won't mess up if you jump, he's probably used to it. I give injections almost every day so trust me, I know what I'm talking about.
You will be just fine. And no one waits for an hour in my dental office. :o)

Take this from someone who has been there about 5 times. First you have to make an appointment then you go and sit down in the lobby. Then you wait for about a half an hour to see the denstist. The hardest part is when he tilts you back and gives you the painful shot where he or she will be filling the specific tooth. Then he goes through someAnd after the numbness wears off, the most you will feel is slight discomfort for maybe a few hours procedures to get you numbed.( the numbness is weird and it helps alot. So you don;t feel any pain.)then he leaves to go to other patients for about 15 mintues while you watch t.v.( if there is a t.v.) If not bring something but no ipods, music players or anything that when you get the spit out of your mouth will get it wet likesoaked and get it ruinded. Then he comes back and starts the fillling. Just vibration, tickling, slight pressure, and a little pit of pain. Usually the shot is the most painfull. Then he tells and comfronts you to make you feel better before and after this dental filling. It doesn;t hurt at all.Your mouth will be numb for up to an hour after you leave (so don't try to eat anything or it will end up on your shirt or face!). And after the numbness wears off, the most you will feel is slight discomfort for maybe a few hours THis all depends on the type of dentist office you are going to. WEll, good luck and don;t FILL up with much fear. Fill, filling, tooth! HA HA HA HA HA I crack my self up. WEll, good luck once again.

When you get the filling, they usually numb that side of your mouth. So it doesn't hurt at all while they do it. Your mouth will be numb for up to an hour after you leave (so don't try to eat anything or it will end up on your shirt or face!). Usually just one shot of novacaine does the trick. And after the numbness wears off, the most you will feel is slight discomfort for maybe a few hours. All in all, it's relatively painless.

I would call the dental office. If they didn't use a curing light, then you're right, it would be soft. If they made a mistake they need to take care of it NOW. If they've already closed, call in the morning! Good luck

You usually don't need a shot unless you are needing a filling on the top row of your teeth. The bottom one's you would be fine without a shot but the top one's your gonna need them. You really don't even feel anything when they do a feeling so don't worry that much. The shot will just feel like a pinch and you will soon just numb. They will give you as many shots as they need to so where you can but can not feel it..Does that make sense ? The shot will be uncomfortable but after the first one you don't feel the others cause your numbing.
