Well according to my doctor Loperimide is only for a once in a while episode. If this is an ongoing problem, you need to get some professional help, because you don't want to be stopping the toxins from coming out.
If you are suffering from food poisoning, then going on the brat diet is sufficient.
If you experience on-going diarrhoea, then you may have IBS or colits or crohns, in which case, get along to the GI doctor ASAP, and don't take any anti-diarrhoea drugs, because there are toxins trying to come out. Things that will settle down a stomach suffering from IBS, colitis, and crohns are:
melon, banana, banana smoothie made with soy milk, peeled apple, pear, grapes, no fat, no meats, no fiber.
(maybe mashed potato and egg). and NO TOAST.

According to my personal and clinical experience, the best OTC medication for diarrhea is Imodium [Loperamide HCL]. You should take two pills as soon as you get the medication, then one pill after every episode of diarrhea. Drink lots of fluids like sport drinks; these counteract both water and electrolyte loss. If the symptoms persist, you should get evaluated by a doctor or go to an ER because the risk of becoming severely dehydrated. There's a more effective medication available by prescription only [it's an Schedule IV controlled substance]; its brand name is Lomotil [Diphenoxylate hydrochloride and Atropine sulfate]. It acts by relaxing the gastrointestinal tract, controlling both the diarrhea and the colic pain that's often associated with it.

BRATTY diet.

Bananas, Rice, Apples, Tapioca, Toast, Yogurt. Don't eat other types of fruit, because they will just make things worse. Good luck, I've been there. The good thing about it was that for me, it didn't last for more than two days.
My doctor said that it's only if by for some strange reason it lasts more than 14 days, can they admit you to a hospital. I bet for you it's not that severe though.

Bananas .. . although an extra-cheese pizza will do the job *and* function as comfort food, too.
