The ring itself (a tangible object) may not mean anything, but his commitment to you does. My advice to you is to have a heart to heart with him about it. Tell him you don't understand whether or not he really wants to get married. After that, I would let it go. Trying to push a guy into marriage is a good way to push him away. (I'm not saying you're pushing him... just be careful not to.)

It is simple...one of two reasons....if you guys are both struggling for money/getting started in life...he may be saving up for the big purchase: - ) Men want to feel financially secure on their own first, before they take on the responsibility of "caring" for another person...and yes men still see it as they have to take care of you, even if both of you work! Otherwise he is not going to marry you. When men fall truly in love, they can not live without that person will marry them instantly! His "talking" about it is his way of stringing you along until something "better" comes along in his eyes.

He's playing you. He does not want to get engaged, but he doesn't want to tell you that because he knows you'd probably end it so he is stringing you along with vaugue talk as long as he can.

of course it means something. its a symbol of unity and committment. it means he's a jerk that wants to use you for now and when he's tired of you he can toss you aside.
