Wore braces for 3 years.
Didn't really wear my retainer : \.
But I should have.

My orthodontist said that the average person (with crooked teeth) needs to have braces for 24 months. My teeth weren't too bad and I've had my braces for 16 months and may only need them fo another 2 months.
It all depends on the severity of the need of braces and the way your teeth and mouth react to being twisted into place.

i had braces for 10 months from January - October of 2005....i have worn a retainer at night ever since i have had them taken off...you will always have to wear a retainer at night...my teeth still look as straight as the day i had the braces removed....your teeth will shift if you do not wear it

I had then for about a year and a half. I only wore the retainer for a few weeks so my teeth are a bit crooked again.

I've had my braces on for 4 years so far, I'm still wearing them.
I haven't gotten my retainer yet, though. Best of luck!

I had them as a high school young adult many years ago. They didn't have the phases like they do now, they waited until you were older and pulled teeth, then put the braces on. I wore them for 4 years.
