same ability to think as we do, I mean in regards to any human in such a way that it had emotions, thoughts, etc. If it asked for forgiveness from Christ would it go to Heaven?

If you choose to say instead that it has no soul, even though it is identical in thinking to us, then what makes you think we have one?

I've thought about this many times. First of all, the word "soul" is a metaphor for the embodiment of one's personality and achievements made on Earth. The question is not whether or not the soul physically exists, it's whether or not it lives on after the body has died. The major difference between artificial intelligence and natural intelligence couldn't possibly be made clearer. One is NATURAL and one isn't. An artificially intelligent being has no life until someone gives it life. It has no "heaven" until SOMEONE GIVES IT A HEAVEN. Were we intelligently designed? I don't know, that's not what this is about, but no matter how long you sit and think about it, you just can't rule out the possibility. Chew on that for a while. It's delicious.

No matter how intelligent it was, it would still be a human creation, not created by God. It isn't thought that gives a person a "soul". In fact, we don't "get" a soul, we ARE a soul. We need to look at how God created humans in the first place. First, He sculpted a body from the Earth. Then He breathed the "breath of life" into the body, and the man came alive. That "breath of God", a.k.a. "spirit", is that electric force that makes the difference between a living body and a dead one. The "spirit" is not a conscious entity, but just breath. The Bible then says that after God breathed into this body, the man BECAME a living soul - it didn't say he RECEIVED a soul. Here is the equation:

Body + breath (of God) = living soul
Soul - breath = (dead) body

Since an artificial intelligence has/is neither (flesh) body, spirit or soul, spiritual matters are meaningless to it, and would be incapable of determining what sin is, so asking forgiveness for sin would be pointless for it.
