Very few types of cancer are hereditory (inherited from your parents). The main one is breast cancer, which you will be screened for.
The chances of teenage cancer are about the same as being hit by lightning. Not looking after yourself might double your risks, but double next to nothing is still next to nothing.
If you wish to break the cycle, the easiest way is to start is to eat properly. Don't worry about calories, but get plenty of fruit, green veg and some fish into you regular diet and you will soon feel much better.
Don't forget you can always call Childline confidential and for free on. 0800 1111 to discuss any issue that is bothering you.

Hi start off by thinking positive things try and lift your spirits.
Speak to your doctor and let him/ or her know that your worried about getting cancer, and what are the chances of it being hereditary.
Also depending on what cancer it was would make a huge difference.
Please remember to eat right, exercise, stay fit and knowledge is power don't run from it, explore it thats what will save you know and what is the best way of preventing it.
In the mean time Cheer up go see a funny movie, or do something you enjoy to take your mind off of it.
Dwelling on what happened your family member will not bring them back it will only scare you even more until you just might end up making your self sick.
So please go see your doctor take care or your body mind and spirit and be happy.
Ps maybe you should also try talking to other family members

Out of each and every a million million people below 2 many years previous, a hundred and forty get maximum cancers and recommendations maximum cancers isn't even on the record. we've below 23,000 circumstances a 365 days finished and approximately 12% of those ensue in people below 2 many years previous. there's a great distinction between being secure and being paranoid.

It can happen. You never really know. There are young children with cancer as well as very elderly people so it can happen to people of all ages, races, backgrounds, etc.
But sounds more like what you have is depression and/or anxiety. You should talk to your doctor about maybe taking some medication for the stress you are feeling.
If it's going to happen...it's going to happen. But if you exercise, eat healthy, etc. then it might help prevent cancer as well as other diseases.

Percentages are very low. If the relative who died of cancer is a parent or sibling, then your risk factor is slightly elevated for later in life, depending on what type of cancer it was and so forth.
Depression can weaken the immune system, but I have read no studies that directly link it to cancer.
Exercise is beneficial to people suffering from depression.

Hi Alicia
I am sorry to hear about the family member who suffered. Cancer is something which could strike any of us. However, the chances at your age are very slim. As you get older, medicine is improving also. You need to speak to a cousellor as this seems to be ruling your life. Do not be ashamed- anyone can start thinking things like this which can affect their quality of life and mental health. See someone now and please persevere with help. Good luck.

Who knows? Cancer doesn't discriminate.
You need to look after yourself for YOU, no-one else. You will feel soooo much better if you do. take care.

There is a chance. But worrying will make it even worse!
It will not happen! Concentrate! It will not happen! Now say it for yourself: "It will not happen!" And keep saying it till you start believing it!!!!!!!!!!!!
