King James Version

Matthew 24:14 - "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."

The Message (Version)

Matthew 24:14 - "...the good news—the Message of the kingdom—will be preached all over the world, a witness staked out in every country. And then the end will come."

Since the end hasn't come yet, Jesus could not have just been talking about the initial spread of Christianity worldwide.

Please explain...

No badmouthing other religions, or psychoanalyzing my question please. Thank you.

Yes I agree, it just means in that order (preaching worldwide THEN the end).

I beleive that the end, is not the end of the earth, but rather, the end of this "old system", then a "new system" will take place.

Great bumper sticker joke btw!

I agree with those who beleive that the 144,000 will be leading with the "good news of the kingdom".

I believe that every bible has it's merit in some ways. The King James Version is the most popular, but not always easilly understood. I feel It's better to read a bible that you understand, rather than one that you don't (because of old English).

I don't have a personal preference with the Message bible, I just thought it shed a bit more light on the verse quoted.

I like to look up lots of versions here:

It seems best to juxtapose Matthew 24:14 with 28:19,20. The earlier verse shows that the preaching work is necessary as a sign of Christ's presence and the conclusion of the system of things. The latter citation shows that everyone who aspires to be a Christian must personally participate in the public preaching work, just as Jesus and his apostles and other first century Christians did.

(Matthew 24:14) And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.

(Matthew 28:19-20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”

Note that Jesus commits to remain WITH THOSE PREACHING. Are there any other Scriptures that make the point that some action is required of ostensible "Christians"? Yes.

(Matthew 7:21) Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will.

Hi! First, I always say, let the bible interpret the bible. In this scripture, the disciples asked Jesus what would be the signs of His second coming (not the rapture). Jesus then began to give them those signs. When you get to v.14. the good news being preached to all the world, you tend to think that that will be done by people. But I want you to go with me to Rev. the 14 chapter and the 6th verse. It says 'And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue and people.' At this point in the book of Revelation, 3 1/2 years of the tribulation are already passed. The end of the tribulation, or last 3 1/2 years are about to commence. Jesus was not talking about the believers preaching the gospel. That would take too long. As you know there are tribes in remote parts of the world that would take years to translate their language. But an angel from heaven!!!! As you see in the 6th verse, this angel knows every tongue in every nation and is able to preach the gospel to every one on earth, AT THE SAME TIME! This is God's final attempt to get the hardened hearts of the people to repent before the angel in the 18 verse of the same chapter comes with his sickle to reap the earth.

This is my humble opinion of this scripture. Feel free to research it further on your own. I hope I have helped you.

Who are the ones preaching about the kingdom of God? Throw a rock at a church on any given Sunday and you can probably hit one. Who are the ones giving a true witness to all nations before the end? That would be the Atheists. The Emperor is not wearing any clothes! Wake up!

The translation by the editors of "the message" is wishful thinking of Satan the Devil and his demons.

Here are four translations that are closer to the exact Greek words:

13 But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. 14 And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come. (NWT)
-
13 But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world as a witness to all nations, 8 and then the end will come. (NAB)
-
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. (KJV)
-
13. but he that has endured to the end, he shall be saved. 14. And these glad tidings of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole habitable earth, for a witness to all the nations, and then shall come the end. (Darby)

Jesus is talking about the time directly before his return. (see verses 27-30)

Paul S:

Greetings, Matthew 24:14 has already been fulfilled! Christ can come at any time now:

"If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;" - Colossians 1:23 KJV.

"But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:" - Romans 16:26 KJV.

OH YES, this is a Jehovah's Witnesses commission in life. To preach the Good News of God's Kingdom in all the inhabited earth. To help forfill Bible Prophesy.

The Bible doesn't say every person on earth will be preached to, just that the Good News will be preached in all the earth.

I agree with Jonathan. The worldwide preaching has happened already and the end of the times could happen any time. God asks us to be ready. Please, be aware of false teachings.

Also I want to warn about the false teachers that say that Jesus is not God.

First...toss "The Message" that is not The Word... it is at best, garbage.... then you might have a chance at knowing The Truth.....

When God knows that all the world has had the oportunity to hear The Word... that will signal the end of The Church's time on earth... all who are of The Church(saved) will leave the Earth... but

during the Tribulation time to follow there will be 144,000 of the Natiion of Israel who will go out to all of the world and evangelize. They, and all who are saved by The Truth of The Word they bring, will be martered... But all of them will enter Christs Kingdom when He comes.

Jesus did not say, "and then the end will come IMMEDIATELY", He said it WILL come.

We sure know what WE want, but it's God's plan not ours.

I am reminded of a bumper sticker I once saw:
"God, grant me patience...NOW!"

The answerer after me is right on the money. This is talking about the 144,000 male, virgin, Jews who will preach the good news during the seven years known as the Tribulation period.
