Advantage and advantix also work, advantix also does ticks and mosquitoes
Many vets recomend rotating (active ingredients) brands to prevent the fleas from developing a resistance to the active ingredient in any single product.
The house and yard also need to be treated as well as all bedding and changing vacume bags each day/time used.
Bayer power force worked well for someone I know as an outside treatment, its a granula soaked in chemicals that leach out when wetted so it retreats the yard when watered or rained on. The product was recomended by her vet. I am not sure what she used inside.

Fleas become resistant to products over time which is why makers have to continually change and reformulate. One great way to rid your pet of fleas is to use an old fashioned flea comb and just spend some time. The absolute best bet though is to make time and take your (suffering) pet to the vet so that they can remove the initial fleas, give you the best product on the market now, and educate you on how to remove the ones that remain in your home. Hope this helps!

Don't buy any of that Hartz stuff that you find at Wal Mart or the grocery store. It is cheap, but it is also worthless. Your best bet is to get a really good product like Frontline Plus. It is pricy, but well worth it. Follow the instructions carefully and use it on your dog during flea season. I treat mine from March to November just to be sure. In some areas you may have to use it year round. Check with your vet.

Take him first to a professional groomer or vet for a flea/tick dip bath. Then get one of the products as those mentioned, like advantix or something. But check with your vet, older and younger dogs or those with health problems require extra precautions in choosing chemical treatments for the fleas.
You probably should also get your home/yard sprayed for fleas/ticks by some exterminator.
Good luck!

No shampoos work. In fact no products from stores work believe it or not - you have to go to a vets to find stuff that works: Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate, and a decent housespray. Whatever spot-on you get, make sure it gets on the dog's skin, not fur.
Spread the word about pet store stuff and hopefully people will get the message and they'll stop selling this random, harmful junk.

First off if your getting your products in department stores or grocery stores that is your first mistake. Your products most be professional strength. That is found at your vet. The vet can suggest a shampoo or dip your animal to give them instant solution. Than you must rid your house and carpets with professional products again. You then can keep them off by using advantage or front line one a month. You can order it on line or purchase from your vet.

You have to treat the dog, the house, the yard, the furniture. If you don't treat it all you may or may not get rid of the fleas. Get a good vet recommended product like frontline and use it regularly.
