I just returned home to Washington DC after visiting the Biodome in Montreal. I fell in love with those penguins!

I’m looking for any zoos or parks that have penguins (the bird, not the hockey player). The National Zoo does not have penguins.

The Baltimore Zoo has African Penguins and the Philadelphia Zoo has Humboldt Penguins. The Metro Richmond (Virginia) Zoo also has penguins on display.

FYI: The National Aquarium in D.C. is a small facility located within the Commerce Building, which pales in comparison to the larger National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Sadly, your best bet for finding penguins in D.C. would most likely be stuffed ones on display at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History.

The Smithsonian museums, particularly the Air and Space and the Natural History, are my favorites. The Washington Monument is fun, as are the Capitol and White House. Pre-9/11 we got a VIP tour because of a friend of a friend with connections, but that's tough to do any more. If you like Chinese food, a short Metro trip to Chinatown will yield some excellent cuisine, and the lunch prices are unbeatable for the quality of the eats. Have fun on your trip!

That's a great question!! We're planning a trip to DC in the spring. (You can tell by my avatar we love penguins too!) DC has an aquarium but I don't know if they have penguins. You can email the aquarium at info@nationalaquarium.com

Outside of DC, Baltimore MD has an awesome aquarium. It has a really good dolphin show, penguins, everything.

I understand they free range on the Falkland Islands. That is the closest outside of zoos and the Hilton's animal area in Las Vegas.
