A Water Spaniel, so it could walk beside him...

JK- of course it would be a mutt. Probably an ex-leper's dog.

EDIT: Cleoppa- worded it wrong. Ex- LEPER dog. Jesus cured the dog, too.

A Canaan Dog.

They're a herding/pastoral breed that has lived in that regions for a long time. Likely similar type that shepherds in that time had.

Really, dogs weren't very popular with Jews at that time. It's not too likely anyone but shepherds had dogs.

ADD: The answers here are really funny. Howldine, why would a leper give up his dog just because he's not a leper anymore?

ADD: Tony, "experts only" lol? What should they be experts in? History? Dogs? Theology?

Probably a Pariah dog, which is a sort of native dog, like an Australian dingo or Indian dhole. It is the dog that was the foundation for the Canaan dog, which is a herding breed native to the Middle East.I'd like to think that he would take the scrawniest pup in the litter.I often picture him with a dog at his side, watching over a flock of sheep.

A Basset Hound, because they are perfect, just like him.

Okay, maybe not.....

Probably he needs a Border Collie to round up his lost sheep.

LOL, Cleoppa, I was thinking about a Canaan Dog!

Let's see, Jesus did have a pretty active lifestyle, what with walking around a lot, so he could have had a nice active dog, one that's good with lots of different people...

I like the idea of the Shepherd having a herding dog... keep those apostles in LINE. :)

I believe he'd have an American Pitbull Terrier, so he could preach to people about being accepting of the things unknown, being non judgemental, and being a forgiving Christian (being he did that anyway), I think an APBT would be a good example for him to use when preaching about prejudice, hatred, lies, and other sins.
