Because fear is the most productive tool these mind control cults have to win over and keep followers.
Source(s):
Remember, "god" is nothing more than a nonsense word created by man to explain away all of the things we can't yet understand.
Religion is a disease of the mind, born of fear, which has done nothing but bring untold misery down upon the human race.
If you can't get someone to convert willingly through preaching, fear is the next best tool.
Christianity for instance is based on two principles:
1. If you believe, you will be rewarded with the prospect of an eternity in Heaven when you die.
2. If you don't believe, you will be rewarded with the prospect of an eternity in Hell when you die.
For Christians:
God is all-loving, all-wise and all-merciful, so long as you submit to becoming a slave - salivating and singing heaps of praises on him for all eternity.
Much like an Earthly dictator who rules his subjects under rule of tyranny - submit or suffer.
Two methods in which religion spreads
1)Violence
2)Child Indoctrination

That's actually laughable...so many Atheists think Christians live in fear, when nothing could be farther from the truth. Christianity is based on God's love and Jesus' sacrifice; fear doesn't have anything to do with it. I don't know any Christians who are afraid; I'm sure not. I know where I'm going when I die; I will be spending eternity with God. So what is there to fear? I do fear God, but in the way of reverence, respect, and awe. Not literally afraid of Him.
Why do so many Atheists think we're afraid? Ooohhhh, perhaps YOU'RE the ones who are afraid. In fact, in your two points up there, you would fall under #2. So yes, if I were in your shoes, I would be afraid also.

"Much like an Earthly dictator who rules his subjects under rule of tyranny - submit or suffer" Precisely. Which begs the question, Why would any one willingly submit to a dictator? Not just a dictator but a megalomaniacal genocidal infanticidal blood thirsty war mongering psychopath?

I have to disagree with you. I fear nothing not even death and I am a christian. Can you say the same thing?
But let me ask you a question, Why the hate? I will willing to have an open respectful conversion with you about Christianity if you would like. The only thing I ask is that you do not be disrespect. Kris are you up to a respectful, friendly talk about Christianity and GOD?

Oh definitely. It is almost like a cult actually. I was raised catholic and forced to go to a catholic school for 8 years. Every day we were made to pray 3 times a day and we were told how lucky we were that our "god" was merciful . You are most definitely correct and you also summed it up very nicely. Good Job

You are a slave to sin and don't even know it. We are Christ's bondservants as Christians. I believe most Christians came to Christ the same way I did... through the drawing of the Holy Spirit who convicted us of sin and showed us a loving Savior. Once you realize you're a sinner and that Christ died to save you from your sin, you want to live for Him out of love, not fear. It's a total change of heart. There's really no fear in it, it's more like respect. But yes we are Christ's bondservants and everyone else is in bondage to their sin. It's either one or the other.

The greatest deception Satan ever worked was convinving the world he did not exist. If you are not a believer pray and ask jesus to reveal hiself to you. No doubt he will and you will be set free. The truth is the closer you get to dying the more you will want to believe and my father in heaven will still accept the blood of his word made flesh, the slain lamb, the messiah Jesus the Christ, as a payment for your sins if only you will ask!

Disagree, it is a truth based religion, you are rightly so to fear if you do not believe because the Kingdom of God is near.

I don't know who propagates that kind of mis information. Embracing a different kind of religion is a result of conviction based on enlightenment. It's not because of blackmail, or fear or failure to do would result in damnation. You yourself have been swayed by blackmail of the book you quoted by reading it and now share it with every one who reads this.
