"Without a personal Creator-God, how are you anything other than the coincidental, purposeless miscarriage of nature, spinning round and round on a lonely planet in the blackness of space for just a little while before you and all memory of your futile, pointless, meaningless life finally blinks out forever in the endless darkness?" asked by 777 (why won't she just crash, boeings aren't that reliable)

So basically we need someone up there caring about us, wanting us to feel loved (by threatening us with never-ending torture) and that we have a purpose - to kiss butt forever and ever amen.

Don't all these arguments amount to - I can't handle a universe that isn't like this - so I refuse to! If you don't like it - refuse to accept its reality. Won't that solve everything?

Catholic crusader - those mathematicians would have to be very careful about making damn sure they didn't know how evolution worked. It is not random. Mutation is, selection isn't. Your objections were refuted well over a century ago. Besides this isn't even about creationism.

'Tzofia' as well. You simply don't understand evolution! Try and learn about it somewhere other than your church group.

'Faith' (magical, wishful thinking) is a lame and pathetic substitute for 'evidence'.

Faith-based 'belief' (the internalized certainty that you are privy to the 'truth' pertaining to vital aspects of existence and reality) is a lame and pathetic substitute for 'knowledge'... in fact, it is the ILLUSION of knowledge.

Faith + belief ---> self-deception, self-delusion and willful ignorance.

'Belief' is an insidious mind-killer... it cuts one off from the open-minded and intellectually honest (willing to actively question and doubt one's own assumptions) consideration of alternative possibilities.

"The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance... it is the illusion of knowledge." ~ Daniel Boorstin

Well, I don't know if theism is wishful thinking, but praying sure is. The beliefs you address are definitely comforting to many, which is what people feel first explains their god. The good feeling (relief and hope, maybe?) when they're told they get to go to a wonderful place after your body dies and until then there is someone watching over you and protecting you and making your life good if you believe in him. Seriously, doesn't that sound good to everyone? Doesn't make it true, of course, but I guess it is a sort of "wishful thinking", that or the combination of very receptive imagination and a lack of information or knowledge to the contrary! This want is so great that they'll reject reasoning to the contrary when it is provided, because it takes away that "good feeling" and instills fear of the "eternal hell" (or whatever sort of hell other religions cater too as an alternative to their version of heaven).

Ultimately, we can't change another persons point of view or their personal reality. Only if they are seeking change or looking for other possibilities will they be reached with our sort of reasoning. I waver back and forth on this, as sometimes I feel that we should just live and let live, but then I recall the wars and persecutions being caused due to these archaic beliefs and I feel like I need to do something about it... It's a fine line.

Calling it a convenience would not make it fake. That isn't clever in any respect. that's fake no remember if or no longer that's a convenience. some human beings actual care on the subject of the issues they carry to be genuine and a few human beings do no longer. we can count quantity you between the latter. 2. you may argue all of it you like. that is called "ideas analyzing" and that's a logical fallacy. Atheists are people who purely don't think in magical flyig sky beings who make universes from no longer something, create dirt toddlers that come to lifestyles, rib women individuals, and speaking snakes. that is purely stupid. Wishful thinking approximately what? Christians asseret that a mystical God exists and the only ingredient an atheist does is ask, "the place? show me." precisely how is that "wishful?"

Of course it's wishful thinking, and it's funny how the 1st answer says life can't just randomly form, while just recently they found some space dust that mimics human dna....what an unlikely phenomenon!!...oops, maybe not. that just Dominated God in the face. People can't handle the fact the life is meaningless and our deaths mean nothing. as unfortunate as that is, and as much as that sucks, it's just how it is. But that doesn't mean i have to be depressed, I'll just Love life while i have it and try to keep it as long as possible! stupid religion lovers, they are just too weak to accept their purposelessness.

Personally, I think the idea - that of all the infinite possibilities in the universe I am here by pure luck and chance - is amazing and awe inspiring. Life itself is so complex, and evolution so amazing, there is no need for a god - in fact, the idea of "God" pales in comparison the the universe and the natural world.

I think God has turned them over to a reprobated mind,they can't hear what we are saying and it may be to late,because they just don't care.

Indeed, and it's fueled by dogmatic herd behavior and sheer ignorance.

The Armored Moron keeps copy/pasting the same crap over and over.....he thinks that lies become true after being over-repeated, which is also true of religion.

More and more people are coming out of the infantile belief that we were created and that the creator talks to us. We are maturing as a species, but we're not there yet.
