My special ingredient: Cut the ricotta in half and add mashed avocado. It gives it this amazing flavor, and it will work well with the cayenne.

I wouldnt use cayene to move the lasagne up in heat.
I sometimes add chilli flakes ( dried seeds and chilli ) this gives a warming rather than intense heat. There is of course notheing wrong with getting a couple of chillies and finly chopping them into the mince. do seeds and all if they are mild and seedless if Hot unless you want to feel the burn ( I would)
if you want to spice up the crust i would go for pimento
all the best

When adding cayenne pepper, use just a tiny amount, and taste your sauce before adding more. For just a little kick, try about 1/4 of a teaspoon, stir, taste, and adjust.
For a rich lasagna, you could slice softened cream cheese and dot it between your layers of pasta, cheese and sauce. You could also add pepperoni, to the layers. Also good is adding spinach to the cheese mixture. Be sure and defrost and squeeze excess moisture out before adding and mixing.

For the Italians, lasagna is also a way to use leftovers. Any ol' meat will do. They've nothing against any ol' vegetables going in, either. Now, as for herbs, seasonings, and spices, my guess is that if an Italian family found something in the cupboard, why, they'd put that in, too. Why not?

The avocado idea sounds really good, wish I had thought of it. To the avocado recipe you might want to add a couple of chipotle peppers. Soak them in water until they are soft and chop them up.

Cayenne pepper isn't to strong - a couple of teaspoons would do.
Try making the cheese sauce with strong stilton??? That does give it a real kick!
