I was at the dentist today and the doctor said that I had a lot of teeth staining etc,... and that it was probably from certain foods I've been eating.

So, what are the foods that cause teeth staining?

Coffee, tea, smoking.... those are the first 3 that popped into my head.

Also, if you don't get regular cleanings at the dentist, the lingual (tongue) sides of your teeth will begin to stain from tartar (this also happens with smoking)... then eventually the entire tooth. I've seen people with teeth stained BLACK from heavy smoking/caffeine drinking and for some reason never thought to see a dentist!

More frequent brushing and flossing will help as well...

Best of luck, and don't forget to schedule your next check-up in six months!

Anything that has color can stain your teeth. The key is to avoid foods or drinks that you use a lot. Like if you are a coffee or soda drinker and sip it all day, or a snack you keep munching on. Also, avoid acidic foods and drinks they allow the color to penetrate faster. The best is to do what they used to teach everyone, brush and floss after each meal and snack with a good quality soft toothbrush. If you keep them clean the stains won't have time to absorb. Good luck and take care of them so they last your whole life time.
