Hi, my name is Phil.

Just have a question about the relation between my religion (Christianity) and psychics.

If psychics/witches are looked down upon in Christianity, and they are a so-called "abomination" (I've heard that used on them before), then why did the Lord grant them the specific powers/mental capacity to perform such actions?

And if they are "false", then why are they mentioned in the Bible as being TRUE (See: Witch of Endor?)

Enlighten me...

The Lord creates.

Satan destroys.

Satan does not create.

The powers come from God.

Who said The God of the bible gave them those powers? And you have clearly misunderstood the whole situation with the witch of endor. since she knew that she was usually dealing with deceiving spirits she immediately recognized that it was not a deceiving spirit but an actual soul and cried with a loud voice saying why hast thou deceived me for thou art saul 1 samuel 29:12. The Lord allowed Samuel to appear not because what the witch was doing was right and not because she had power but to cast judgment over saul. and that's the only time anywhere in the bible that occurred,

They are looked down upon because they claim to be an information source more powerfull then Him.
Psychics and witches cant do what you think of as magic though. If they could, I would be dead by now.

Anyway ... they just say they can do this so they can look more important then they actually are. If you ask a psychic a direct question, they just say "it doesnt work that way". Thats just plain retarded. Same thing with witches, ask them to preform a visible spell here and now, they will also answer "it doesnt work that way". Of course it doesnt.

Christians dot claim to be able to change the world with anything but their two hands (and bulldozers). They dont claim to see further then their two eyes (and telescopes).

Also, Saul, the man who used the services of the witch of endor, was considered as sinning.

Phil,

The Hebrew scriptures condemned any form of sorcery or necromancy. Simon the Magus in the New Testament is condemned for offering to purchase the power the disciples had been given by the Holy Spirit.

There are people with genuine gifts. You can be born with such gifts or you can obtain them. Those who seek power will eventually find that it usually doesn't come from God. That would most likely have been the case with the witch of Endor. She learned her craft and her powers were obtained through the powers of darkness.

People with genuine gifts can be tempted to abuse them to. The Devil is envious of people with such true gifts and often attacks them violently. Some examples would be such Saints as St. Jean Vianney and St. Pio (commonly referred to as Padre Pio).

There are also a lot of people who fraudulantly claim powers. I once challenged a psychic to do a "reading" for me. I have genuine gifts and was going to give him a run for his money. He wouldn't do the reading, even though he was passing up the opportunity to make a buck. I don't think he wanted to be exposed.

The term "witch" has many connotations. In the Bible it refers to a woman who practices sorcery, necromancy or other so called Black Arts. Witchcraft in most cultures is associated with sorcery. Negative magic performed to harm others.

Modern witches, also called Wiccans, are neo-pagans who practice magic in the context of worshipping the ancient God and Goddess and living in tune with nature and its cycles. Their creed or "REDE" as it is called forbids them to do harm.

When the Bible uses the term false, it that context it would mean unfaithful to God. It isn't a commentary on the power that witches possessed. The witch of Endor did conjure up Samuel at Saul's bequest. Saul would be punished for his transgression.

Most Christian Churches forbid followers to have anything to do with psychics, the occult, etc. Many consider such things as superstition. There is also the risk of attracting negative spirits who may try to do you physical or spiritual harm.

I hope that's enlightening. If you would like to discuss further, please e-mail me.

God didnt grant them this power. You can open the doors of your mind and heart to satan, and he will give you power as well to see into and delve into the workings of the spirit realm. Remember, not all things spiritual are sanctioned by God. Not all powers given are given by God. Its just that the power that God gives to those who serve and believe in Him is greater than that of the enemy, the devil. But please don't be fooled into thinking that the power that witches and psychics have is from God the Father in Heaven. It is from the father of lies, satan.

The witch of endor was dealing with familiar spirits, and when she called up Samuel's familiar, this was not Samuel's soul she was talking to. When we are born, God dispatches Angels to watch over us and serve us. Well the devil dispatches his minions to try to keep us out of relationship with God. These minions study our every habit, motivations and character. How else would satan know our weaknesses and he is not omnipotent. At any rate, when we die, these minions are still alive and can muster the shape, the sound of our voices and even our mannerisms. That is why they are called familiar spirits. That is also why some people think they were alive in another time and era, because the familiars do not die. They are eternal and go from person to person doing the work of the devil.

I hope this has helped you.

As defined by the Bible....... psychic revelations given directly from God arent psychic...... they're prophecy.

Powers derived from any other source are considered abomination.

I find this patently stupid. If the Devil warns me about 911 and I use that information to stop the event - Im still good.

People have come a long way in terms of understanding the world in 2000 years.
People even today can still be fooled by "Applied Kinesiologists", even though that is just a modern form of witchcraft and sleight of hand. Sharp eyes, an educated, critical mind, and logical thinking can easily disspell such nonsense.

I don't know if you'll get the answers you're looking for by asking witches. The vast majority of us don't believe in the Christian deity or devil and so don't regard our abilities as coming from either of them.

We tend to see ourselves as part of the life energy of the universe at large and our abilities come from simply tapping into, focusing on, aligning with, or harmonizing with this energy. No deities need be involved or even in existance for this.

My perspective on the situation is that the Bible was written by people who saw witchery as competing with their religion and so wrote nasty things about it.

You'll have to decide for yourself what's right according to your own understandings.

Well technically God didn't like those who practiced divination apart from him. He wanted to be the one giving out the news.

Also God didn't like those who used their 'echantments' influence or dominate another person.

I think necromancy was frowned upon.

In the new testament the term witch meant something like poisoner or druggist if you will. Mind altering drugs akin to the magic of enchanters.

Wiches and Psychics are real. God didn't give them their power the high fallen angel "lucifer" does. This happens when you dabble in the practice. It will cost you your eternal life and it will "trust me" affect your entire family with a curse. When a Psychic say's she speaks with the dead it is not with the dead but with a fallen angel who will give correct information. Fallen angels are always around and know most of everything.

Deu 13:1 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,
Deu 13:2 and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, "Let us go after other gods'--which you have not known--"and let us serve them,'
Deu 13:3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deu 13:4 You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.
