Please take the time to read this question THOROUGHLY! And please answer it sincerely and completely. Each part is essential to the overall intent of the question. All “Christians,” “Atheists,” Muslims, etc, etc. are more than welcome and even encouraged to answer and give their views:

Why do you suppose that Christians have been singled out for discrimination in American society, generally by those who insist that tolerance is the highest virtue? That is, why does our culture deem it permissible to denigrate deeply held Christian beliefs while insisting on the greatest deference for most other faiths and even secular world views? Could it have anything to do with Christianity’s perceived judgmentalism, its exclusive truth claims, or its adherence to moral absolutes? If so, how do other religions [such as Islam], which also have exclusive truth claims and strong moral standards, get a pass?

Because Christianity is a threat to those who are intolerant, but the intolerant call themselves tolerant.

It's easy as ABC- Anything but Christianity. Jews will be next, then maybe the terminally ill, deformed, homosexual, etc.

If it sounds eerily like fascist socialism (e.g. Nazism) or communism, that's because the methods are the same in any secular state: A lust for power, and making people do what they don't want to. Then you start marginalizing your detractors, and killing them.

That's what can happen when there is no solid moral foundation for ethics. That is the logical conclusion.

I'm sure many secularists are good and moral people, but that's an impossible way to run society.

It is because Christians have both the will and the numbers to legislate their religious beliefs. This has already happened in numerous instances, such as teaching intelligent design in schools and denying funding for stem-cell research.

Other religions do not have the ability to pass laws based on their own moral codes (at least in America), and as such do not pose as great a threat to democracy.

It isn't Christians in general who seem to be attacked by so-called intellectuals. It's the more aggressive Christians, often called evangelicals, whose conservative (some may call it super-conservative) viewpoints on general cultural issues irritate those with what used to be called liberal leanings. But since Christians are not thought of as a minority group, no one really thinks they need any protection from biased attitudes. In that, they might be right. But because it's impossible to scientifically prove aspects of religious belief, those so-called intellectuals feel comfortable attacking beliefs they feel are somehow BENEATH them.

It has everything to do with the hatred that Christianity has fostered in this country.

The pendulum swings both ways before settling evenly in the middle. While Christian hatred and oppression was the norm for the first stage of this nation, we see the pendulum swinging back toward the other extreme. Unfortunately, it must be so for us to get back to center. If Christian hatred had not been so strong for so long, you would not be seeing such a backlash.

The Bible tells us that is the end times that Christians will go through great persecution. It comes as no surprise to me that this is happening.
I know the word of God and I am on guard! I see the signs, I am ready for the comming of the Lord.

The fact that beliefs are 'deeply held' doesn't mitigate against them being immoral and therefore worthy of denigration.

I think Christianity gets attacked so much because it is real while the other religions are false. Satan has no reason to attack Islam. They are doing exactly what he wants them to do.
