As you do not state where you are from I do not know about the licenses and permits you might need.
In most countries there are schools for travel agent and travel agent assistant.
And mostly travel agencies will train assistants, or have their head offices train them.
If you want to become a travel agent it is the best to get a proper training, if there is no school or agency to get you started, google for on-line training.
Pros of being a travel agent, always talking about your hobby (if traveling is your hobby that is.)
Small reductions on travel, sometimes big reductions on holidays.
You will always know about the newest guides and brochures, most likely see them before the start selling.
Cons of being an agent, all people you talk with are leaving for a trip and you have to stay home to get them there.
The holidays for which you get reductions are nearly all low season, so mostly deserted or bad weather, or both.
You see all these lovely trips in all brochures and you have to stay working.

Education is a great career with great benefits. Travel is a fun industry but very very competitive. I would recommend finding a steady job in education like teaching, but have your own internet travel business. Most teachers have summer breaks and this would give you time to travel and explore the world. A internet travel business will give you over 400 possible tax deductions. Talk to a professional tax person for advice on this area. When you have your own internet travel business, you not only earn commissions on your own travel, but also when friends, family and customers book on your site.
