It tends to be the same about any non-mainstream groups. Smaller religions, lifestyles, unusual sports, kinds of music. It doesnt really matter what it is. Some people just hate to hear about people shifting away from the recognized mainstream about anything.

Maybe it shakes their faith in their own choices?

People like to be ignorant and would rather call all Wiccans Satan worshipers than actually understand what their beliefs are. Some still believe that ignorance is bliss. I say that ignorance is going to be the downfall of all mankind. but hey what do I know I'm a Wicca

I didn't realize they did. They have convinced themselves it doesn't exist. Pagans don't exist either in thier minds.
It just makes me laugh. If people knew ANYTHING about pagans, they would know I am one. Let them be ignorant. They aren't nosey if they don't know.

Because people are afraid of any group they perceive as "different"....

They do not want to hear anything that could conceivably challenge their pre-conceived notions......

They are afraid and weak in their belief. Those who are strong are not afraid of other religions.
