Why is snooker chalk blue ?

Here is the real answer:

The chalk is blue because the blue blends in with the green cloth when it comes off the tip, and is virtually invisible when it's not in large clumps. The reason other colors of chalk exist is because there are other colors of table cloth that can be used.

And if you're now thinking, "Why don't they use green?" It's because green chalk looks lighter than the green of the cloth when it comes off the tip, so blue is actually harder to see.

I've seen green, yellow etc.

Originally all cue chalk was blue.

The color doesn't have any barring on how the ball reacts. But it's purpose is to cushion the shot which is why you see a lot of professional pool and snooker players chalking up after every shot.

I have a device which slips through my belt loop which holds my chalk. I also use a cue tip scuffer prior to each game.

It needs to be a distinct colour so it can be observed on the tip of the cue, blue is a good colour for this, but I have seen green snooker chalk, it wasn't the same colour as the table, but blue shows clearer on the snooker table, than green.

It's green too, in fact most snooker chalk is green, for some reason pool chalk tends to be blue.

Not sure, but i think its that colour so you can then see the chalk at the end of the cue to know if new chalk is needed and to see when your hitting the white that there isnt no chalk on the spot your going to hit.

It's not always blue. I have seen pink, and red chalks.
