For the first week or so of the healing process, I would recommend you wearing a strapless bra if at all possible. If you are too "top heavy" to do so, bandage the area with a breathable dressing that you can change easily and frequently. I have a tattoo that covers both shoulders and traverses the center of my back. I chose not to wear a bra for the first week. But, then again, I'm not dealing AT ALL with the issue of being top heavy. After that, I simply went with a comfortable cotton bra from Victoria's Secret. The straps are cotton as well as the bra, so it didn't really aggravate the scabs. I also kept the area COVERED in "tattoo goo" for about three weeks. It's messy as all hell, but it seriously helps with retaining your color and speeding the healing process.
I hope this helps!!

I wouldn't wear a bra while it heals because the straps could scrape across it and take ink out. If anything, just use it as an excuse to stay home a couple of days and lounge around. Someone else suggested those stick-on bras. That's a good idea. Another person suggested pinning the straps together so they don't bother your tattoo. That's another good idea. I am sure whatever you do will get you through. Good luck to you.

i find that a bra irritates a new tattoo too badly to wear one by itself but i always wear a t-shirt and then the bra on top and then whatever shirt i am planning on wearing for the day. you only have to do that for the first 4-5 days until it starts peeling. also you could try doing a t-shirt with a sports bra on top and then another shirt. you just need a buffer in between your skin and the elastic tighter parts.
good luck!

even putting a soft piece of cloth between your skin and bra strap won't help. your tattoo needs air to heal and it sure doesn't need anything rubbing on it.
i am busty and when i went to get mine i had it done on my first day of my holidays, so i could be home, braless and not worry. even then it was over a week before i could have the bra strap sitting on it.
please don't wear a bra til its healed - you'll only make it sore and possibly end up with an infection!

I didn't have a problem with mine at all. It will be a little sore for the first few hours after you get the tattoo, but after that you should be fine. As long as the strap doesn't rub back and forth along the tattoo, it won't hurt it at all.

No. Either wear a strapless or just wear one strap and tuck the other one into the side of the bra. It's not good to have anything rubbing against your healing skin.

Oo! That makes me cringe to think about. You shouldn't have anything rub against it. Not good for the tattoo. Perhaps trying to find a strapless bra? Kind of tricky.
