I'm 6'1" and my younger brother is more or less as tall as me. But my older brother, father, and mother, are all 5'8", 5'8", 5'5" respectively. Plus, I'm Asian and I know Asian people tend to be shorter than most other races. I'm just curious as to what extent does a person's height depend on their genes?

If you are healthy and received adequate nutrition then height depends pretty much solely on genetics. But just because your parents are both shorter doesn't mean that they weren't carrying around a rogue tall gene just waiting to be expressed.

This is almost always an accurate formula to calculate a child's heights based on the Parents height. Give it a try.

For Boys: (Father’s Height + Mother’s Height + 5) / 2

For Girls: (Father’s Height + Mother’s Height - 5) / 2

Almost completely. The only way anything other than genetics can affect your height is if you are malnourished during growth, and then it just means you wind up shorter than you would have otherwise because you didn't have enough nutrients to meet your full potential. If you eat properly, the height you grow to is determined entirely by genetics.

99%...you height is preprogrammed at conception. I'm sure starvation during childhood and teens would affect height, health, ect. However for all intents and purposes your adult height is determined as soon as your mother becomes pregnant.

people have 2 diverse alleles to make up the gene. so the persons grandparents had the two the quick allele and the tall allele of their genes. the tall alleles weren't used in the mum and dad however the quick have been. then in the guy the tall alleles have been used (so u can say the tallness skipped a technology). additionally, the son's hight relies upon on the persons spouse too.

TWO THINGS DETERMINE YOUR HEIGHT. ONE OF THEM IS GENETICS. IF YOUR PARENTS AND THEIR PARENTS WERE TALL THEN YOU ARE LIKELY TO BE TALL ALSO. THE OTHER IS HOW MUCH HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE YOUR BODY PRODUCES. TOO LITTLE AND YOU MIGHT BE A MIDGET, AND TOO MUCH AND YOU MIGHT BE A GIANT.
