THEREFORE-If you had to interpet this scripture in today's culture how do you see it?
What would cause the Moon not to shine it's light? or the sun to be red darkened-How's bout a Nuclear Bomb? or an Asteroid? Didn't darkness prevail on earth when the dinos were wiped out?

""I will cause wonders in the heavens and on the earth—blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon will turn bloodred before that great and terrible day of the Lord arrives. And anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. There will be people on Mount Zion in Jerusalem who escape, just as the Lord has said. These will be among the survivors whom the Lord has called."

Make your mind up, you talk about the sun being reddened and the moon darkened. But your quote has it the opposite way around.

Face it, all you are doing is spinning stuff to vaguely fit into your preconception of the world.

The bible does not have symbolic language to speak to different generations. It had the original Hebrew (OT) and Greek (NT) that subsequently has been edited and translated. It wa written to fit the agenda of the priests of the time, and it was edited and the translation picked to fit the agenda of the priests that performed those functions.

If it was the word of god, there would be no need for it be symbolic. It could just explain the science behind all the occurrences, astronomy and geology, and then just say that God would make an asteroid hit the Earth, causing massive destruction and earthquakes.

We are not smarter than the people of 2000 years ago, we just have more knowledge, knowledge that God could have imparted to his followers at any time.

But you go ahead and spin, it is all you have.

The Original Testament does have many literal passages, poetic passages, and parables.

Like Aesop's Fables, often a parables transcends time better than a literal story (rules and morals may change, but everyone knows that a turtle is slow and hare is fast).

Unfortunately the LAWS are also wrapped in symbolic language, which makes them way too vulnerable to changing interpretation.
The same is true for all Abrahamic beliefs. Look at Islam: The Koran was "written" by a LIVING prophet, but as soon as he died a major schism with 2 totally different beliefs rose up.

In the passage you quote only those perched on Mount Zion will be saved - no mention of us in the Western hemisphere.

The problem with symbolic language is that it can be interpreted in many ways, and each person can be sure that their interpretation is valid. (taught English lit. for 32 years)

"As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church."

"Also that women should adorn themselves modestly and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire but by good deeds, as befits women who profess religion. Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent."

Symbiolic dont you think?

It's amazing, though, how many of the references are obscured by culture and time to the point that many generations CANNOT understand it.
