I know this maybe sounds dumb.....but is it possible? I have been trying my hardest between work, a kindergartner, a 4 yr old, and daily activities to go to the gym. I am on a goal of losing 20 pounds and increasing tone muscle. I love to work out, but i feel so useless sitting at my desk at work behind a computer all day. Is there a way to get excercise while sitting at my desk without totalling weirding everybody out at the office? PLEASE GIVE ME SOME TIPS IF THERE ARE ANY!!!

ok i know you will think i am crazy and my answer will be removed but my wife just lost 30 pounds by placing ben wa
balls inside her vagina at work all day. you can buy them at an adult store or on the web. what happens is it stimuates
you all day and keeps your blood going you lose about 3 pounds a week. if you were them 5 days a week 4 or 5 hours a day. there is always prozac it makes you not hungry and you will lose weight. I know many people that has worked for 2. Get to a weight watchers meeting during lunch. or order nutra system all foods can be made in microwave and dont need to be refridgerated. good luck. but exercise and the tread mill is the true key.

This sounds silly, but sometimes I actually do butt crunches at my desk. And if you focus a lot on your posture while you're sitting there and tucking in your abs, it helps. Also, if you have like a thighmaster, you could always do that under your desk (although that might be crossing the "weirding everyone out" line!) If all else fails, just do like me and make up for the lost exercise time by hitting the gym right after work...

You can practice your Kegals without anyone noticing. There are a few other things that you can do,put a " stress ball" on your desk and use it while you are talking on the phone, just switch hands one call use the left hand the next use the right. You can tense and relax the muscles it your legs, and when you have lunch you can walk up and down the stairs instead of using the elevator. You can park the car an extra block away.and walk.

You have quite a busy schedule and I think this would be the easiest plan.

You might not be into trying dietary pills but I've seen one that actually works. My friend from college and his wife tried dietary pills from proactol and after a month they both had noticeable weight loss.

There are also excercise belts you can wear. Neither way would weird people out at the office.

Hope that helps.

It isn't dumb at all, I think a lot of us resent having to be sedentary while doing busywork.

I'd suggest, if you can, setting up your desk so you can work while standing, and elevate your chair for when you want to sit. This will encouragemore of your muscles to be active in maintaing your standing posture, and gives the metabolism a nudge. Plus, depending on whether folks can see you, you can do a few leg moves from that position.

At low levels of exertion your muscles use fatty acids for fuel, to reserve your blood sugar for the brain/nerves. So this will give a few extra calories of fat burning, especially post workout. Plus, i don't get sleepy standing!

Hope it helps

The only exercise I can see doing without attracting any notice from your boss, is the Kegel exercise while sitting down. This is done by tightening ones muscle that is used when urinating. You exercise by making like you are actually holding your urine then releasing the hold. You can do this without anyone even knowing and it is good for someone who is sexually active.

No, I am not familiar with any exercising tips while sitting down. Would you be doing work or just sitting there? you can do leg lifts and squats and such. lift barbells lol when you have lunch sitting at your desk; eat a light salad or something healthy. stay away from coffee and drink plenty of water!

No, not really. But when you walk to your office, take the longest route possible and take the stairs rather than the elevator. Carry your heavy briefcase and such rather than role it (weight lifting!).
Also, take your 4 year old for a walk or teach her how to ride a bike, that will give the both of you exercise!

i dont know about aerobics-getting your heart rate up, you might look silly sitting there flailing your legs around or throwing your arms around, but you can tone up muscles, for calfs and legs you can do toe raises and for chest and arms you can grab both ends of the desk (if your arms can reach) or even the arms on the chair and push in and hold for a few seconds then let go.you could do that with anything in your area actually.

If you have space under your desk, you can stretch your legs. Straighten them and then bend them again. For more of an excericise, put on some leg weights under your desk. No one will even notice and your legs will be toned in no time. Just add the weights and do leg lifts.
