what are the chanes of becoming a pilot in the Air force?

if i get into the academy, what would be the chance of getting to be a pilot..

roughly 15-35% depending on the year group. In my graduating class they needed more pilots so they were actively soliciting cadets to apply.

last i heard when i spoke with the Commandant of Cadets last summer was that pilot slots were holding pretty steady at aabout 500. so based on an average class size of about 1000, about half get Pilot slots. now, realize not all cadets at the Academy are PQ (Pilot Qualified), so the actual applicant pool will be smaller than 1000.

but it IS class-standing based. being near the top certianly gives you a better chance of being accepted. I am not sure what changes they've made to the UPT program since i graduated in the mid 90's, but that will have some bearing as well- how well you do in the Pilot Training program.

I would guess that the AF Academy works like USNA, where I went to school. Service Selection is based on class standing and preference as well as number of slots available. And pilots also have particuar health restrictions. The best way to ensure you get your slot is to keep up your grades.

I would say 15% too. You should be more concerned with keeping your job as a pilot in the Air Force though. They have been known to lay junior pilots off due to funding.
