My uncle is a MAJOR alcoholic, he would bang back countless bottles of hard liquor. He spent the majority of his life in the hospital, from everything to alcohol poisoning to suicide, to many other things i don't know about. I do not know this man, and have never met him. He's homosexual, and has had a very difficult life. Even though he has pushed people away that cared about him, and was a stupid man for the most part. But for some reason, i have a sense of sorrow for him. He is now brain dead and in the hospital dying, from excessive amounts of alcohol. Is this weird? Or bad or good? Im 14 and he's about 50..

for 14 you sure are carrying alot of weight on your shoulders. My stepfather is a raging alcoholic. He has tried numerous times to hurt himself. Alcoholism is a disease. If your uncle had cancer, you wouldnt turn him away. So yes it is ok for you to feel sorrow for him.It shows you are a good soul. On the other hand, you can only help people who want help. If he is in the hospital and things arent looking good, you should go visit him or encourage your parents or an adult to go with you. He knows he has messed up in life and if he is on his death bed let him die in peace knowing that someone did care....

It's a good thing... shows you are a sensitive and sympathetic person.... be with people that are family, hopefully and you will see that just because your uncle did bad things, he's not a bad person... you sound very mature for somebody who's 14 and it also shows that you were raised right. Would it be any different if he 'd have died in a car crash while somebody else was driving? the answer is yes, so just because of what other people say he was, other people will see your true colors...

good luck, if anyone is making you feel bad about this it is their problem, not yours, keep your chin up and always, always care about others may your uncle rest in peace and I'm sorry if you're having a difficult time coping...

Hi....

Your uncle probably was not a "stupid" person, but rather someone suffering from mental illness.

I have discovered that the majority of alcoholics are people who are "self-medicating" to feel better. they are undiagnosed, but have a mental illness. Of course, drinking does not help them, or make it go away...

The mentally ill sometimes do have a rough life, and especially when they drink, and don't get help. Being a homosexual had to make his life doubly difficult.

I think it's very sweet and compassionate of you to look upon your uncle with sympathy and sorrow. You'are a good person.

I think it's ok for u to feel bad for him. That's a sad life a very sad life. Obviously things happened in his life that he couldn't handle. then the alcohol took over. Feeling bad just shows that ur a good person and u feel for others.

You have compassion which is an excellent quality. You should know you are a good person for feeling the way you do and that there is nothing you can do for him. Some people have very sad lives. I am sorry.

Family is Family and you don't get to pick them.

It's good that you don't support what he's done, but you still feel a sense of sorrow towards him. I don't think it's weird and I think it's good. Especially since you're young.

And at least you can learn from his mistakes.
