They do not go to the same school, the US Army has its own sniper school which is located at Ft. Benning, GA.
I have seen US Army personnel going through USMC scout sniper school although I can only guess they were part of some type of specialized unit and it is very uncommon to see them there. No they were not US Army Rangers, I would see maybe 1 Army guy out of 30 people going through the school and that would happen every 2 or 3 classes.
The USMC scout/sniper school is the best formalized sniper school in the US armed forces.
In terms of actual field craft USMC scout snipers are second to none.
Anyone who really knows anything on the subject will agree.
Sorry but even today long distance rifle marksmanship and its employment in combat is still the US Marines domain.
EDIT Gunner Rossco...
The competition you mention " the International Sniper Competition for 2006" takes place yearly and is put on by the US Army at Ft. Benning, GA.
It is THEIR competition where obviously US Army personnel are familiar with how the competition works, the terrain, and more than likely have weeks of preparation for the actual events that are going to take place. They then invite snipers from other services to come on their turf, and go through their events, and then judge them. What a joke that you listed that as a reference.
Hence...Thats why they won it.
As I originally stated anyone who knows anything on the subject of sniping will agree that the USMC scout sniper school/program is second to none.
You assume that this US Army competition is the end all be all of judgment on snipers. USMC scout sniper SCHOOL East coast competed. These were Marines IN SCHOOL, or more than likely had just completed school, they were not Fleet Marine Force scout snipers or real HOG's (hunters of gunmen). They more than likely sent a couple students up to Benning for fun just to compete.
US Army competition and they get the top five slots in it, wow takes a lot to figure that one out.
amazing......

Depends what you think defines how good a sniper is - is it marksmanship, field craft, or a combined score of the both? How are you supposed to measure both fairly in such a way as to indicate skill?
Most answers you get depend on which service the answerer has a connection to - expect an Army Ranger to back up his snipers unconditionally and a Marine wife to share her usual "US Marines are the best at everything" opinion.
But let's look at the results of the International Sniper Competition for 2006
1st Place - 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment
2nd Place - Army Marksmanship Unit
3rd Place - 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment
4th Place - Special Warfare Training Group
5th Place - Special Warfare Training Group
6th Place - 6th Marine Sniper School
---
Yes, I'd say the Rangers have the edge at the moment. But let's not leave it at that for the moment, as their successes don't represent the whole Ranger Regiment. That and the 7th Annual International Sniper Competition starts this month. To determine which service currently provides the best snipers, you'll have to do a lot more than play the old Carlos Hathcock wildcard.

i'd desire to or won't have lit you up on yet another question, yet i will take you heavily this time. so which you like specific ops, and snipers. probable a sniper for a definite ops team. considering the fact that there is not any direct enlistment option to grow to be a sniper, you are going to bypass with a sprint ensuring you a fit in a education to connect a definite ops unit. you're probable going to need each and every thing certain, and not have your destiny relax in the militia's palms. and that i don't blame you. So alongside with starting to be to be a member of with the optimal purpose of turning right into a sniper, that still takes Marine Recon off of your record. there is not any direct enlistment option to connect Recon. you should volunteer for education with an 03xx contract. so which you're left with SEALs, Rangers, and military SF. All of those are the two complicated and elite. you would be experienced by skill of the excellent, to be between the excellent. Your education will push you previous something you think of you're able to. you are able to't bypass incorrect with any one in all those. you additionally can grow to be a sniper in any of those communities too. Do your study on SEALs, Rangers, and military SF. %. which one is the excellent. those are very diverse communities, and you should be waiting to %. one.

You are comparing apples and oranges. If you are going to compare snipers to another branch you would have to compare Army snipers VS Marine snipers.
It would probably depend on how well the spotter and sniper work together. Although if you look at history the Marines have had some incredible snipers. Carlos Hathcock and Charles "chuck" Mawhinney to name a few.

The marines receive more intense training in the art of snipering. they are trained to wait as long as need be for 1 shot.
For the rangers, this might just be a part of their mission.
Let me say this. I would not want to be 500 yards down range from either one of them.

Each branch of the military has specialist snipers. They often train together and are pretty much equally qualified.
Sniping requires extreme patience, willingness to lie still in less than luxurious condition for hours, and a steady head all in conjunction with a dead on shot. Very few people have these skills.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not in the least.
Not to say that they're not tough because they are but they are nowhere in the same league as the U.S. Marine Corps. The average Marine is a better shooter than anyone else in the armed forces.
The only ones that can compete with the USMC would be Navy Seals, Force Recon (USMC), and Delta Force.
