What's the aircraft in the background? Is it a C-54 / R5D Skymaster?

Thanks!

The aircraft in the background are TBF Avenger's (2) and an SNJ (T-6) Trainer. One of the TBF's has it's wings folded. Not sure about the one in the foreground.

It is a four engine military transport. During that time period there were only a few that were used by the US. The others are the LOCKHEED L - 188 (http://www.aeroplaneart.com.au/Images/JSJ_PC_Lockheed_L_188_Electra.jpg) and the LOCKHEED CONSTELLATION.

This is obviously not a "Connie" and looking at the shadow on the ground it appears that the wing is set closer to the cockpit than the wing on the L-188 so I would have to say that your asumption that it is a Skymaster is correct.

The one that they are standing under looks like a skymaster.

There appears to be a Douglas C-54, a Grumman Avenger, a North American SNJ (T-6) and I think behind that ( folded wings and large four blade prop) a Grumman Bearcat or Douglas Sky Raider (AD-2), Probably the Grumman.

Which one? There are 3 aircraft in the background - two between the 2 soldiers, and one on the left margin.
