You're totally right. Let's suppose that god exists (just for a minute please, please). If he had not created that tree, there wouldn't be sin. That's it!.
"No, no, no, the tree is just a metaphor" they say. Ok, doesn't matter because if God created the universe he also created the possibility of sin. He is almighty isn't he? couldn't he have created a universe where there was not that possibility and we were still free to decide about many other things that we do?

They keep saying God gave A and E free will but he did that before they had the knowledge of good and evil. God didn't teach Adam and Eve about good and evil.
So God put a tree in the garden, the fruit of which they couldn't eat. That tree contained exactly what they would have needed to obey God.... knowledge of good and evil. Yet this was forbidden by God, the contradiction is glaring.
They always say that man was responsible, how can that be when God placed Adam and Eve in the garden with....1) The serpent, God knew the nature of the serpent. 2) The forbidden fruit. Without the knowledge of good and evil, God left them defenseless against the influence of the serpent.
Why would God allow all of these elements into the garden if it was not His divine intent for Adam and Eve to partake of the fruit and eventually be the scape goats for all of humanities sins?
It's an interesting fanciful story but it just that, not in the least bit factual...wake up people!

God gave us free will. If you met a beautiful woman and you could put a spell on her and through that spell make her love you for an eternity...would you do it? Would you put a spell on everyone around you and make them all worship you and love you? Or would you want people to love you freely for the person that you are? If you had the power to tell people that they could have anything they wanted just through believing in you and immulating you and then give them the CHOICE...then why wouldn't they believe? Right? It seems simple enough...but it isn't...we humans question everything...we can't just say "wow...all I have to do is believe and immulate him and all that is mine? Well...okay then :o) " God never controlled us from the start...this is the proof through the garden of eden....we all controlled ourselves....even Jesus could have stopped his own death but he didn't....because he saw the greater purpose in it. We all have the power to control our own lives. We have always been allowed to make our own decisions and God will not take that away from us. I don't want to be a robot...why would anyone want that?

When God created the garden of Eden, he put many trees in it including the tree of good and evil.
He didn't have to put that tree in the garden, but he did. Why?
God wants us to follow him not because we have to, but because we want to. If he did not give us choice, then we would have to follow him because we have to and it could be said we are mere slaves to him.
So God gave us choice. He loves us and want us to follow him not because we have to, but because we love him and want to follow him.
The reason all of mankind are held in death is simple. We all come from Adam and Eve. And we all have their sinful nature.
And because of that, we all sin and die.
Yet, God knew even before he created Adam the devil would cause him to fall. It is that reason that even before he created the heaven and earth, even before he created Adam, God had our salvation in place.
For in the beginning, the Father begat his Son, our salvation.
And by the Son and through the Son all things came into being by the expressed will of the Father through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Adam and Eve had one rule to follow: eat from any other tree in the garden, but do not eat from the Tree of Life or the Tree of Knowledge. With all their needs cared for at perfect peace, they chose to disobey, and so do we.
Presumably, you are the kind of person who is against judgmentalism.
If God made everything, what right have we to judge him.
With Love, wishing you wisdom and understanding.

He had to know. he is Omnipotent. It is man who did not know that eating fruit was going to cause such a fracas.
I think churches of today should teach carnivorous ways.....Just to be on the safe side. Eating fruit is bad, imagine what would happen if we all became vegans? God would smite us all.
Thanks for lightening the mood.

Because God created man with a free will. God won't force us to do anything, even obey Him. This meant that He allowed Adam and Eve to sin because that's what they wanted to do.

who is "you"? i've never heard that we inherently have a sinful nature. i'll buy it, though, for the sake of your question.
my answer is your favorite...He (God) gave us free will when He created us, and KNOWING BETTER, Eve still ate the fruit.

Because "allow" is a necessary component of "free". God created us free, with the ability to make our own decisions and decide our own destiny. Therefore God must allow us to do whatever we decide to do. Anything less would rob us of our humanity and make us mere animals.
