When I was a Catholic growing up, I used to pray the rosary with others every once in a while. I used to read the Bible now and then. I used to give money to the church for the poor every week when I went to church etc. We were all friends in the congregation. I was taught to love everyone and be friendly. I prayed all the prayers Catholics do and my own. I now don't consider myself a Catholic or any other religion. I am just a Christian. Being a Christian is a way of life not a religion. Have a good day!

"whats it like to be a catholic?"
It is wonderful and Spirit filled. I find peace, joy, and love being a Catholic.
"Do you go to Mass atleast once a week? "
Yes, EVERY Sunday, even if I am out of town on vacation.
"Do pray the Rosary daily?"
No. I do not do this particular devotion very often. Some Catholics do.
"Do you read the Bible?"
Yes, I read the daily Scripture readings at Mass every day along with a reflection on the readings. My favorite websites for doing this are http://www.wau.org/meditations/meditations.asp and http://www.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/daily.html
"Do you give to the poor?"
Yes. I am one of the founders of Project Hopebags, which is an outreach program to the homeless - http://www.hopebags.com
"are people in the congregation friends with each other?"
Yes, there is always visiting inside and outside the church after Mass. I am also an adult volunteer in the High School Youth Program.
"Does Catholicism teach you to be friendly to others?"
Yes, Catholicism teaches us to "love our neighbor as ourselves"
"Are there any prayers you pray that are not already written out, do you have prayers that you decide what to say while you are saying the prayer?"
Yes, sometimes prayer is spontaneous. Sometimes it is a prayer that i really like. Catholics pray BOTH ways.
"Would you consider yourself a cafeteria Catholic?"
No.
Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss anything.

Oh dear this question makes me wonder if you are truly serious or just trying to 'bait' Catholics.
Yes Catholics know one another , are friendly ,love there neighbors and are very generous. just like all who follow Christ are supposed to be.
As practicing Catholic I go to Mass ,sing in the choir and participate as any other Christian does in the life that Jesus teaches us to live.
I pray all of the time -several times a day
I have a loving conversation with my Heavenly Father and do not even consider trying to "decide what to say while" praying any more than I would rehearse a conversation with my mother or my sister. My Heavenly Father/Mother knows what is in my heart more than I do .
I pray the Lords Prayer taught to us by Jesus.
Like other Christian congregations there are times when the entire congregation recites a pre-written written prayer.
We read the Bible, study the Bible ,discuss the Bible and hear Homilies directly related to the Scripture read aloud during Mass.
Personally I rarely pray the Rosary all the way through.
And what on earth is a "cafeteria Catholic" ???

Do pray the Rosary daily?
No.
Do you read the Bible?
Yes, daily.
Do you give to the poor?
Yes.
are people in the congregation friends with each other?
Yes, very much so.
Does Catholicism teach you to be friendly to others?
Not specifically, but friendships develop spontaneously in a close community.
Are there any prayers you pray that are not already written out, do you have prayers that you decide what to say while you are saying the prayer?
Of course. I usually pray in my own words when I pray alone. Rote prayers like the one Jesus gave us are used primarily during community prayer.
Would you consider yourself a cafeteria Catholic?
No. It's all or nothing. Jesus said His Church would teach the fullness of truth. I believe Him. So why would I pick and choose what His Church teaches. He told the leaders of His Church, "he who hears you hears Me".

It's awesome to be Catholic.
Yes, we are obliged to go to Mass at least on Sunday, but I try to go more often because I really love going to worship Christ.
I don't pray the Rosary daily since my third child was born,
but I used to & I need to get back into the habit because meditating on the life of Christ daily is a very good thing.
Yes, I read the Bible.
Yes, not only do we give to the poor, I volunteer at a local soup kitchen.
There are people in the congregation who are friends with other people in the congregation, but I can't say that everybody is friends with everybody else. We are friendly, but we have such a huge variety of people, you can't expect to be friends with everybody there. Our friends are similar to us, as you would expect -- couples with young kids -- because commonality makes friendship. We have less in common with the empty-nesters.
Yes, Catholicism teaches you to be friendly to other people.
Yes, I pray spontaneous prayers, those that are not written out, but the ones that are written are helpful when I can't quite figure out the words I want to pray on my own.
No, I am not a cafeteria Catholic. I try my best to uphold all the teachings of the Church, even if I don't like them much or find them inconvenient or embarrassing.

Nine, possibly 10, questions in one ... hope you're not looking for in-depth answers, but feel free to e-mail me if you'd like.
I do attend Mass at least once a week.
I try to pray a daily Rosary.
I read and study the Bible on a daily basis.
Yes, I give to the poor -- often.
Are we friends with each other? We're more than that; we are the body of Christ.
Are we taught to be friendly? We are taught to show Christ's love to all.
Prayers ... yes, contrary to what some think, we do pray spontaneously "from the heart" rather often. But we also avail ourselves of the richness and depth of the common prayers of the Church, because these unite us in prayer with our brothers and sisters -- around the globe, and through the ages.
No, I am not a pick-and-choose "cafeteria" Catholic. To be Catholic is to accept Church doctrine and teaching in its entirety. Anything less is merely donning Catholicism as a veneer.

1) Yes, I attend Mass at least once/week (usu.twice)
2) No, not daily; I go thru phases where I do, times when I don't; sometimes with the kids we do a decade a day instead of a whole Rosary
3)Yes, I read the Bible (and I just started a Bible Study class, too)
4)Yes, I give to the poor, both in my local community and around the world
5)Yes, our congregation is friendly
6)Yes, Catholocism (which means "Universal") promotes friendship with others, and being kind to all including strangers
7)Yes; I say both "established" and "improvisational" prayers; often I start with a few "established" prayers, and then continue with a more conversational-style prayer
8)No; the major beliefs and tenets of the Church are upheld in my personal belief structure
Peace.

I am catholic but not a fanatic, I was raised a catholic, I was baptized but that's about it. I don't go to church much, but I usually attend weddings, baptisms and pray the rosary at funerals.
