As long as she can receive visits, I'd say a relatively short but cheerful visit will probably be appreciated. You can also bring flowers, a card, or something tangible to remind her of your affection for her when you're not visiting. When a friend of mine was in the hospital I brought my guitar and sang for her.

I think that the latest edition of her favorite magazine (or one that focuses on one of her interests) is a great idea. She may enjoy a new book by her favorite author. Does her favorite band have a new CD, or has a great movie just come out on DVD? Many hospital patients suffer from boredom, especially if they can't use their hands easily, as in this case. A challenging puzzle or solo board game may be possible, since they wouldn't require extensive movement of or heavy lifting with the hands.
Some people are highly allergic (some have life threatening reactions) to plants / flowers, and even if your friend isn't, her roommate may be. Be sure that the patient isn't diabetic, on a prescribed diet, or allergic before you bring candy.

I was going to say take her some puzzle books, magazines, or a book that she might enjoy, but she might have a hard time turning the pages. Ask her what she needs to break the boredom of her hospital stay. She may just need some friendly conversation and a visit from you may be all she needs. She may be able to have food brought from outside the hospital. If so, see if you could treat her to dinner.
Hope she gets the infection under control. Sounds painful!

Sounds as if it will be hard for her to hold stuff...so things to look at, balloons, flowers, or something to listen to like music, or an audio book would be nice. Offer to write a letter or two for her, with some supplies that you have brought. Usually a gift of helping in some way are the most precious ones!

A funny card and a good funny book. I think there is one called something like why do penguins where tuxedos and other silly questions or something like that. It lifts the spirits and it is just a bunch of short silly questions and answers. It might cheer up her silly bone!

Find out if she can have flowers. I had a friend in the hospital and I got her a stuffed bear that said get well on it, and a card. I think anything of wishing her to get well would be fine.

You can always bring her some flowers or fruits. However, if you just actually go and look at her, she will know that you care for her. This will make her very happy. What you bring doesn't matter, it's what you brought from the heart. =D

I need elaboration, do you want something to cheer her up or to occupy her time? If she has an infection in her hands, does it hurt to use them? Or is she able to move her hands? I'll come back and edit if you decide to give out more info.

Does she like magazines? You can bring her a bunch. Or, a book? Also, flowers or a plant are always nice. A box of chocolates if she likes sweets.
