Not sure what you mean by "sin", unless it falls within the context of the Ten Commandments.
As for acquiring "a belief in God", that is an issue best left to your own conscience.
Don't ask us, as we'll only try to sway you to our way of thinking.
All I can advise on this issue is (whether you choose to believe or not) do the best you can, do good and kind acts for those less fortunate than you and try to leave the world a little better off than when you were born.
The rest will fall into place.

Belief in God starts from an acceptance that He exists. If you believe that He exists then who is He? The Bible answers this question. The prophecies that Jesus fulfilled are more than enough proof that the God of the Bible is the One True God. With that said, Jesus is the key to helping you stop sinning. You could get to a certain point without Him but, your inner man will still be filthy. You doing it on your own would be trying to work from the outside in. Jesus does it the right way by working from the inside out. Receive His forgiveness and let His light be planted in you so that your light may shine through your life that everyone may see it.

No that's a little cart before the horse. Your lifestyle is an outcome of your beliefs. You cannot manufacture belief by altering your actions. It's from the inside-out, not the outside-in.

Sinful habits acutally are the main cause of our anger and despair. They provide temporary entertainment but eventually offer an empty destiny. I think the nice person that you are, you should strive to become a better person but trying as hard as you can to remove those sins. You will see immediate benefits not to mention the Peace of Mind!
God bless you and take care!

There is one way to God.
Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth and the LIfe and no one comes to the Father but by Him.
Your desire to quit those bad habits is the very first step. You must also believe that Jesus Christ paid the price for your sins, and mine! Talk to God like you are talking to a friend. Tell him what is in your heart, your desire to believe and want to quit bad habits, etc.
If you believe Jesus has died on the cross for you and rose again and you believe that with all your heart, then you invite Jesus to be in your life. Tell him and mean it! that you are sorry for those bad habits and ask Him to help you quit.
You cannot quit bad habits on your own. Even after believing.
You need to pray and read the Bible and get a spiritual support going for you (i.e. attend a church where they teach about Jesus Christ as Savior )
I hope and pray you come to Jesus Christ and find God.

It usually works the opposite way. You realize that there is a God and through your belief, you change. And I am so tired of atheists stating that we who believe don't think for ourselves. It was through a long time of searching and reasoning that I came to belief. And I don't sit there when a preacher preaches and just accept whatever he or she says. I don't know many people that do.
But to get back to your question, you behave as you believe. Without the relationship with God, you don't have the power to change. You are limited to whatever psychotherapy can do for you, which isn't much.

The problem is: it's so hard to get rid of old habits. Maybe you are stronger than me, or maybe most people are better than me, because I had a long struggle with myself when I was a teenager and I just couldn't change myself.
Then one day I despaired and gave up, and it was only then that God could take over. We can't reinvent ourselves, but God can do it for us if we'd let him.

No! First of all you can't get rid of the sin in your life only God can do that through Jesus. He meets you where you are and accepting the fact that you are a helpless sinner and humbly approaching him is exactly where you want to be. God is merciful and gracious and trying to "clean up your act" so to speak is a sign of self righteousness and pride. I would suggest you get a Bible and read the Gospel of John to begin with and ask God to reveal himself to you. It's a decision that will change your life. It did mine.

When you walk with the Lord the Holy spirit will convict you of the things you need to stop doing. When you get rid of these things you become a lot closer to God and your love for him will soar.
