Well one thing that gets my dog exercise is playing tug of war on a wood floor because her feet slide so she runs in place without a tread mill. She's a beagle/jack russell mix so she likes hide and seek games someone else mentioned. She likes to be chased inside, with big dogs though I can see that being a problem. Depends on how much space you have inside, but you can set up a little doggy obsticle course with just any objects to be creative with, if you have a long hallway though.
I know some breeds of dogs like to carry backpacks or pull little wagons.
The website below was a question of "how do you exercise dogs during the winter" there's some cute games people say there.
And if you can get out to petco or petsmart well dogs are allowed there at least mine acts like thats a big treat to go.

The fast and dirty answer is...you can't. Dogs need more exercise than most people think; try to walk outside with your dog for at least an hour. It's good people exercise too.

But if you just can't bring yourself to commit to that long walk every day, and you also don't want to get rid of your companion, then find a place in your house without too many breakables, and throw a favorite toy, playing fetch. Try to build up a fast sequence of throwing and retrieving. This can help exercise a dog. But they really need to walk outside.

You can most certainly exercise a dog inside; I do it daily.

If you have a tredmill, it takes about 15 minutes to get a dog to learn to run on one.

I have a Doberman Pincher that runs 3 miles every afternoon on mine.

Just have to remember that dogs pant to cool off, so I put a fan in front of her so the breeze from the fan simulates the breeze she would have if she were running outside.

My dog is 7 years old and with Dobies, it's imparative they stay active. This extends their life greatly.

I hope this helps.

Well outside is where exercizing is the easiest, but you can do plenty of things indoors too. I like to set up a 'hide and seek' game for my dogs, hiding their toys and a couple of treats in various places around the house and letting them search and find them. Also, just playing can be a good source of exercise as well. Toss a ball, play tug-of-war, get creative...there are plenty of things you can do. But make sure the dog gets outdoor time too.

Well depends what kind of dog you have. Perhaps more details..? If you have a small dog; throwing around a ball for ten min is about all the exercise they need. =)
Added: I guess hes medium sized? If you have tons of room is your house you can play fetch and make a run up and down the stairs (if you have any).

I don't know how big your dog is, or how big your inside is- that obviously limits what you can do. We do practice some of our basic obedience stuff inside- recalls, retrieving, etc. I will hide the dogs toys in another room and let him run around trying to find them on rainy days, roll the ball across the floor for him, etc. I suppose if the dog is really small, you can walk him inside, but its awfully boring for the dog.

Fetch would be good. If your dog is a lab, it probably loves to fetch. If it's a small space, just throw it more often!

Tug also is good exercise.

Going up and down stairs could be good too. Sort of a stairmaster for dogs...

I have trouble with my dogs (though they are a lot smaller than yours) gaining weight as well. Try this; take a cup full of his food into your living room or another large room. Slide a piece across the floor and make your dog chase it. ( make sure he doesn't bump into any furniture!) Do this over and over again. Then, go get a treat, toy or something else your dog likes, and walk around the house with it, and make him follow you. This gives my dogs a great workout!

Outside is defintely more ideal, but if there's some reason you can't exercise your dog outdoors, a treadmill or a nice game of fetch down a hallway works well.

I throw a ball in doors for my dogs plus we play tug of war. It is still not to cold for them to take a walk out side around the block in fact they like it. If you are not up to the walk take them out in your yard and throw the ball or a Frisbee they love to fetch at least mine do!
