Sometimes I say "Merry Christmas" and sometimes I say "Happy Holidays".
The phrase "Happy Holidays" was around when I was a young one in the 1950's. It was a catch all phrase used between Thanksgiving and New Years. The perjorative phrase "politically correct" had not been invented, so PCness has NOTHING to do with the phrase.
It NEVER was a an evil plot, to "persecute" Christians, as some radical right wing cry babies pretend it to be.
The moaning, whining and crying about how "Happy Holidays" is a form of "Christian Persecution" is RIDICULOUS. People who moan about such stuff need to build a bridge and get over it.

I respond in like to what the other person says. None of the greetings offend me and if it's what they believe then I see no problem.
One company I worked for we answered the phones at christmas time Merry Christmas. One day when I answered it that way and this man said and Happy Haunnakah. I said Happy Haunnakah to you too. He laughed and said thank you. I guess it surprised him that I responded that way. It just doesn't bother me.

Merry Christmas despite being Atheist. It no longer means what the Christians want it to.

I say "Merry Christmas" to most of the people I know (although there are a couple exceptions) and "Happy holidays" to strangers.

I actually say "Merry Giftmas". In 2 years, only one person has picked up on it (and he's also an atheist), most think I say "merry christmas".

Yep, Christmas is a very secular holiday and I still wish people a merry one. Atheist or not, it is also a good time to think about the message of Jesus and what he might mean for us. You don't have to believe in sky daddy to accept much of what Jesus is recorded as teaching, saying, or doing.

I say "Merry Christmas" to people I know to be Christian and care about - but only on December 25th.
I say 'Happy Hanukkah" to people I know to be Jewish and care about - but only on whichever days Hanukkah falls that year.
I say "Blessed Yule" or "Happy Solstice" to people I know to be Pagan and care about - but only the day that they celebrate Yule (this varies by tradition) or on the Solstice.
I don't go around wishing people a good holiday for an entire month.
I say "Good morning" the rest of December, if it's morning, or "Hi", or "Hello" if it's not

I say "Merry Christmas!".
I get kind of irked when I hear the politically correct, "Happy Holidays". If I see those same people at other holidays (for example: 4th of July), I tell them "Happy Holidays" around that time, and they look at me like I'm crazy.

I'm also an atheist and still say "Merry Christmas". To me, Christmas is more of a cultural tradition than a religious one. I understand that it is religious for some, but it's cultural for me.
