Perhaps Tony. But some things can never be justified. And the times you speak of, you are usually just lieing to YOURSELF which is even worse.

Apparently, not true enough. I think it's shameful how certain religions demean and lie about the beliefs of Jews, Pagans, Heathens, atheists, and basically everyone else that isn't one of them. Most of their believers will never know the truth because they've been told not to find out, and they obey unquestioningly.

Excellent question. Unfortunately, there are a great many people that feel that they need to lie, make up "facts", or twist facts around so that they're virtually unrecognizable. Some people lie so much that they don't even realize that they're lying anymore. The same goes for people that make up "facts". Some of these people actually believe the "facts" that they had just made up on the spot.
If someone would care to present an argument against something based on real FACTS, then they would be much more respected. They might even be worth listening to. But the second they start to lie, they immediately lose all credibility. They're just shooting themselves in the foot, and they don't even see it.

Not at all, and that is the saddest thing. By lying about others faith will only make others look down upon your faith. There is enough intolerance within the world, we need to stop worrying about what someone else things and just deal with the actions of the few that really threaten everyone.

I think that if one is going to spread lies about another to make the other look bad and oneself look better. Then that ones "truth" would not be truth. In turn the lie would be used to blind a person to another way in order to make them feel like the ones is the only way. Which is false.
Tying this to R&S. To blatently lie about another faith in order to demean that faith and make it look wrong. Would in turn make that person (not their faith but the person themselves) be wrong. Sadly this is a reflection of that persons faith and while there are great people in every faith there are also horrible, false, ignorant people in every faith and the latter tend to be the loudest, especially in this section.
Your question was well placed and an excellent question to start my day off with =).

Not very true at all. You can't claim to stand on Truth and lie about others all the time. There is no truth in that.

Even the simplest of lies is wrong. But what they call little white lies to save someones feeling, etc. is in our society acceptable.
To me I would rather decline to answer or answer with a question of my own rather than to out and out lie. But, of course that is just this old lady's opinion.
Have a great day.

What you're asking will not make sense to many people - but from the perspective of this Witch, I get it.
Our administration has lied about Iraq, (and about Iran, now), all to make them look bad. Their "truth" then, that America is fighting in Iraq to "promote freedom" is tainted.
David Duke lies all the time about Black and Brown people to make them look bad; by these lies, his "truth" that white people are superior IS a lie, because people who have to lie in order to prove that they are superior....are NOT superior at all.
If you lie *to make others look bad* then any "truth" about how good you are....is a flat-out lie itself.

This is the wrong site for this question. Try Psychology. A person who does this often has low self esteem and they lie about others to make themselves seen more important. However unbeknown to them most people know that they are lying.

It wouldn't be a lie if the person is making themselves look bad. All I would be doing is pointing out the truth.
