First let me clarify that Christianity is not at all a "test". If it were we'd all fail since "all have sinned a fallen short of the glory of God". It is by God's grace we achieve salvation and establish a relationship (as opposed to a religion) with him. That's not to say God doesn't give us a choice whether or not we want to have that relationship or let us know who he is. God has revealed himself through creation, the Bible, his Holy Spirit, and through the testimony of those who have believed. It's easy to think that God is not involved or has kept himself a secret in this fallen world where so many people have chosen to suppress and resist the revelation given to them. For those who would seek will find and hear his still small voice speaking to their heart.

OK. If you've actually decided that repeated punching yourself in the groin doesn't cause enough pain in your life, and you want to argue with him: 1) Point out that the Big Bang was not an explosion any more than blowing up a balloon is an explosion. Also, the BBT doesn't actually talk about how the universe was created, just how it behaved after it was formed. 2) Since the BBT does not deal with the creation of the universe, ask him to explain where in the creation story in the Bible it exactly says that the BBT _couldn't_ have been the way the universe came to be as it is. If he insists "God did it", point out that's a description of _what_ happened, not _how_ it happened. It's never described how God created the universe, just that He did. That's a very different thing. 3) Point out (as others have) that the original idea for the BBT came from a Belgian priest. If _he_ didn't have a problem with the theory, why should your friend? Many of us (myself included) don't have a problem believing in God, and knowing that the BBT is currently the best explanation for how the universe behaved. 4) If he really believes science is so dumb, then he should give up everything that he uses that is derived from science. Basically, he's going to be left with nothing as advanced as the wheel. We'll still let him use fire, though.

I see your point, but if God said that he did something to affect the world, that thing should leave evidence, similarly if God said that certain historical events happened, then there should be some indication that they indeed happened.
So, the Bible says that the flood happened, ignoring for the moment the problems in this claim, there simply is no evidence that a global flood happened - there is nothing in genetics, geology or archeology to support it.
The Bible records the Exodus from Joseph to Moses. Now Ancient Egypt is a well know culture and left significant writings of events and other things. Nowhere in this mass of information is anything that would point to the the events of Exodus happening. Keep in mind that according to the Bible the Hebrews spent around 200 to 400 years there, so a cover up by the Egyptians might have affected the actual exodus, but it is extremely unlikely that they would have purged 200+ years of records and evidence.
This is just a start of the evidence that the bible does not accurately record history or god's works, and that does present a big problem.

Umm, let's see. Why would people want evidence of God? Probably because those who don't have faith think it's a bunch of hoo ha. If evidence of God's existence existed, this argument would be over. Then everyone should be compelled to be Christian or religious if proof of God's existence were to be found.
If I'm studying for a quiz, at some point I'd like to know what the correct answers are so that when I do take the quiz, I know how I should try to answer. It would be unfair to take a quiz and never know the answers, I'd fail the test.
What if, when we die, it's just all over. What if there's no afterlife. No heaven, no God. I know your faith can help you overcome this, but nothing backs my faith when I can't answer this question. Until I can, I can't have faith in anything which provides no plausible reason for me to.

Because all the evidence points to god being a figment of the imagination. The old testament is a collection of the Jewish history intermixed with folklore and ancient religious beliefs. The New testament is a collection of stories from reformist sects of the time mixed with Pagan religion and Pagan Gods, folklore and fiction with regards to a multitude of people.
We ask for proof there is any truth as depicted -v- the actual truth. All you ever offer is "the bible is the truth and therefore it proves itself" while denying the actual facts of the bibles origin.

Matthew 12:
38 One day some teachers of religious law and Pharisees came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, we want you to show us a miraculous sign to prove your authority.”
39 But Jesus replied, “Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign; but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.
