I am looking to buy a used car and have done my homework. I am now looking to buy a 2006 Elantra or Sonata 4 cyl. 16 valve 2.0 or 2.4 ltr. If you have one what do you like about it? Dislike? Is the gas milage really as good as they say? What about your repair bills? How extensive is the warranty.

One other question, do you have a sun or moonroof? Was it put in at the factory or later. Did it work out?

Thanks for your input.

our first hyundai was a 1988 excel. it had over 200,000 miles on it when it was totaled by a red-light runner. my daughter owned a 2002 hyundai elantra. it was totaled when she was driving to fast, failed to negotiate a sharp turn and hit a tree head-on. no injuries either time. my daughter now has a 2004 accent with 70,000+ miles-she abuses it by not getting regular oil changes, etc.-still runs excellant. we have an 05 elantra gt with a factory sunroof-no problems. great cars- as would highly recommend them. great gas mileage and is a comfortable riding car. we owned a 05 honda civic-alot of problems-sold it-yes honda's do have problems. hondas are over-rated.

I bought an 07 Accent to replace my 04 Jeep. My main reason was fuel economy. The Jeep is fun to drive but too expensive to maintain as a commuter car. I know, it was kind of silly for me to buy the Jeep in the first place. Oh well, lessons learned...

My running average fuel economy is 39.7 MPG. I drive very conservatively - slow gentle starts and I drive below the speed limit. Also, I live in a high altitude area where the air is thinner so the air/fuel mixture is leaner.

The car has enough power as long as you're not trying to win the Indy 500. I'm impressed with the interior. I compared it to a Toyota Corolla which costs quite a bit more and I did not get a feeling that the Corolla was worth the extra cash. Only time will tell if that was the right decision.

My Accent is too new to have anything bad happen to it. Again, only time will tell. I have a feeling that with the right care and feeding it will last for a very long time. Building a car is not rocket science. The idea and the technology is pretty well understood. I would be more concerned with reliability of new technology cars like the Prius.

I have a 2006 Azera and love it, no problems of any kind with it so far. I've never had to use the manufacturer warranty on any vehicle I've owned (2 Nissan's prior), but you'll get the remainder of the 5yr 60,000 mile bumper to bumper/powertrain warranty. The Elantra was redesigned for 05 or 06 model year and looks very nice. I wouldn't buy a car with a non-factory installed moonroof or have one installed, just a waste of money with little return at resale. Check the link below to see what people are reporting as their mpg for the Elantra.

We bought a new 2003 Elantra and we probably would buy a Toyota next. The Elantra has been ok, but it would be worth it to us to pay 3,000 more for a better car, although new Elantras are probably much better. Our engine piston failed at 30,000 miles, and we had a little hassle from the dealer in getting it fixed under warranty, but they eventually did fix it right and we haven't had a problem since. They had to put a new engine in the car. It's not as safe a car as I'd like to drive because it doesn't weigh enough and is not big enough if you get in a serious accident. For the same money I'd look at these cars:

i wuld never buy a hyundai... the repairs are worth more than the car itself and you end up pushing it to the junkyard

stay away and go with honda or toyota
