Adolf Hitler modeled his German Nazi party on the lines of Italy's Benito Mussolini's Blackshirt Fascist Party.

As with many things the Third Reich used it was somebody else's original idea.

Because Italy and Germany were firm Allies when war was declared by Germany against Great Britain, Italy had little choice but to agree or suffer take over by Germany.

Benito Mussolini declared war on UK quite early in the war. His pathetic army got smashed up in the North African desert by the Brits. Later in about 1943/44 the Italians changed sides. Can't say I blame them really. What on earth was Mussolini thinking of? I mean, Italy an enemy of UK? What crap is that? The Italians, for all of their football etc., have long been the natural ally of UK.

I once lived in a council block in Wandsworth which had been built by Italian prisoners of war in about 1947/48 - yup, they were still here waiting for repatriation. The block was the best I've ever seen, the craftsmanship just fab. I think the Italian army must have been full of craftsmen. They even managed a mosaic floor in the small bathroom - unbelievable.

Italy was one of the Axis powers in World War II, they sided with Nazi Germany since Mussolini was a facist too. He declared war on Great Britain after Britain declared war on Germany for invading Poland.

for many years, Italy supported Britain (through the league of nations) in fact Mussolini sent divisions to the Austrian border in 1935 in case Hitler invaded Austria. it was only after Italy's attempt to invade Ethiopia and British objection to this when Mussolini sided with Hitler. Italy declared war on Britain when Britain declared war on Germany.
