will the history of the ps3 go the way of the dreamcast? by the time they lower the prices on it; everyone will done own other game systems and not even want one. players will have a Wii and a xbox 360 aznd done invested to much money into games for those systems. then the ps3 price will drop and no one will want one. ps3 is going the way of the dreamcast. we have seen this before with sega dreamcast?

do you think the ps3 will undergo the same things the dreamcast did?

Not a chance in hell. The PS3 sales have just picked up recently, and things are looking better and better for the PS3. The good games are starting to come in, just in time for the holidays.

The PS3 still has the 3rd party support, something that doomed the DC and the GC. Third party developers are lining up to make games for the PS3, something that they weren't doing for the DC and GC.

The PS3 has better and more games than the DC. The DC could never get the games that the PSX and PS2 were able to get. Sega made a lot of good first party games for the DC, much like Nintendo for the GC, but both systems failed because they couldn't get the 3rd party support.

It has a better lineage than the DC. PS3 predecessors: PSX and PS2. Both systems sold well over 100 million. DC predecessors: Saturn, Sega CD, Sega Genesis, Sega Master system. All those systems were spanked by Nintendo and Sony, so most gamers were a little skeptical about whether or not to get the DC.

I wouldn't give the victory to the Wii just yet because the Wii is getting flooded with crappy games, and sooner or later, those casual gamers are going to get pissed off when they start buying a bunch of crappy games.

I also wouldn't give the victory to the 360 either because that DVD-9 is going to come back and haunt the 360. Games are getting bigger and bigger, and that DVD-9 isn't going to do it. Gamers don't like getting up and switching disks while they're in the middle of a game. Companies don't like using multiple disks because it cuts into their profit. Rockstar is already complaining about the DVD-9.

Are you kidding!!!!!!!!!! Sony has been in the hardware side of full entertainment and computer systems for over 30 years. THe playstation gaming systems are engineered by a company with multilateral hardware and software experience...

When Microsfot attempted to go hd with their systems they tried to throw together a software driven computer which is having a failure rate of 33% of all consoles and Microsoft expects all 360s including the great Elite to suffer the hardware failures in the next 3 years...

When talking history lets review Microsoft 360 sales it's first 8 months---they sold less then the PS3 did in it's first 8 months since release....

Many xbox 360s were bought then rebought through warranties by the same customers so the total units shipped and sold are seriously off when calculating how many people actually own a 360.... Research your history a little more...

To answer your pro microsoft question the answer is no the ps3 already has a good following and always will...

no i dont. sega also had a problem with lack of great titles on their systems before. dont get me wrong i loved my saturn to death but it lacked the epic titles it needed to push the next gen. nintendo had those epic titles. mario, zelda, and metroid, as well as making the donkey kong country series that took off for a while. sega only had sonic and mortal kombat. it wasnt enough to push the dreamcast. also the saturn was a total disaster and the attatchments for the genesis was just annoying. dreamcast failed because its predecessor failed and they couldnt step up. PS2 is the top selling videogame console in history. unlike dreamcast PS3 has an older brother to give it that much needed nudge into popularity. microsoft saw that potential and that is why they made xbox games for another year or so after the 360 came out. and sony is doing the same. PS3 is destined for greatness it just needs time. rome wasnt built in a day you know.

If you want to make a link to the last-gen;
the dreamcast was released first, but despite its online performance and next-gen exclusives couldn't get a significant lead up before the PS2 launched.
The PS2 struggled a bit in the first year or so with some unimpressive titles and then took off.
Sound familiar so far?
Obviously, the 360 is doing better than the dreamcast did early on, but that doesn't equate to the PS3 failing by a long stretch.

Not a chance, two main reasons, the dreamcast didn't really have 3rd party developers on board with their system, only a few developers were developing titles for the system. With the PS3, many of the developers have shifted their focus from developing for the 360 to the PS3, for a couple of reasons, one is the hardware is better, more consistency on whether there is a hard drive in a PS3 or not to install game content to (every PS3 has one, there isn't one that doesn't, 360's several million units don't have hard drives).
Storage space of the media is also a factor in development, there have been at least two developers that have stated that there was no way to develop their game for the 360 due to the size of the media that it uses, one of them being Heavenly Sword's developer.

Keep in mind that as the developer's shift their focus to the PS3 as the primary system they'll develop for, so shifts the longevity of the 360.

What's more likely to happen is that the developers after shifting focus to the PS3, slow their developement to the 360 and may cause Microsoft back to the hardware developement for something new. In fact alot of analysts suggest that Microsoft will be looking at new hardware within the next 18 - 24 months (if not sooner).

No way dude. Sega was already hurting badly from the utter failure that was the Sega Saturn. Sony already has a successful formula with their games and controller and such. PS3 is too amazing of a machine to go this route. Look at me for instance. I have an XBox 360 and a Wii. I plan on buying a PS3 as soon as the 40 GB model comes out in November...I'm also selling my Wii but that's besides the point.

With all of the money that Sony has, the PS3 won't go down easy. But, Sony is going to lose a whole lot of market share for sure. Sony is just not on top of their game right now. Releasing a $600.00 game system in a world with gaming PC's that cost just as much or less was tremendously stupid.

Unlikely, they've always got the Japanese market to keep them going. Can't give away 360s over there.
