It almost seems like she is mimicing my daughter, because her mouth and tongue moves in such a way that it sounds like muffled words (the dog, that is, not my daughter) so its not actual howling. Know what I mean?

This is funny and very common.

I have 3 beagles who are very, very vocal. I also have Doberman Pincher in the same pack. This is a very balanced pack and all of them have been raised from pups.

Beagles howl, they don't bark. Dobermans typicall bark, they don't howl.

Wel..... I have a Doberman who has learned to Howl and when the beagles go off, the Doberman is standing right there and howling right with them.

This tells me that your dog may very well consider your daughter as his pack leader and when he howls at the singing, he's doing nothing more then joining in on his pack activity.

It really tells me that you have a very happy dog who's very happy to have you as his/her Hunman.

I play the piano and I used to have a half-siamese cat that would sit on the end of the bench and meow while I played - every time.

Dogs are pack animals and yours probably believes she is just singing along with her "pack".

My dog was a rescue and she was pretty shy and wouldn't make any noise at all when we got her. Since we wanted her to bark when strangers come on the property, we taught her to howl with us. My son, my husband and I would point our noses at the ceiling and howl or bark all together. Eventually she joined in and loves to "sing". She is now also a great alarm for when someone pulls into our long country driveway.

Aren't animals wonderful!

I know exactly what you mean and my Siberian Husky use to do the same thing whenever my youngest would sing or my eldest played her trumpet. They dog is just communicating in a joyful manner with the human that in the dogs view is also communicating in a joyful manner. Although be thankful your daughter does not play trumpet and hit those sour notes every now and then as my dog tries to burry himself under my bed when that happens and the joyful howling so to speak stops LOL.

Yes, I know what you mean. My little friend Louis (a papillon) was quite vocal at times. He could make a sound that actually resembled yodeling. Louis was such a wonderful friend, and this yodel was his way of chiming in with a response to us when we were talking.

Yes, and it is very funny to watch. We had a dog that did that when I was a kid and sang. I think it has something to do with the pitch of voice. Either that or the dog is really trying to sing?!?! Very funny, enjoy!

Love it. We had three dogs that always would join in when my Husband would sing. When we had guests, we would show off their singing skills and everyone was amazed.
