As a Dealer, I would recommend the Ruger Super-Blackhawk in Single Action 44 Magnum. If you want a Double Action Handgun I would go with the Smith & Wesson Model 29 or 629 44 Magnum Revolver. If you are going to hunt big game with it, I would recommend a 6" barrel on either of these. I have personally used both to kill large Black & Brown Bears in Canada with much success. There are a few that are less expensive like the Taurus models, but when it comes to hunting big game animals like Deer and Bear, I feel more comfortable spending a few extra dollars on these two above listed guns instead. They are both known for their individual quality, and hard hitting 44 magnum cartridge. They are very well made, dependable, accurate and great performing guns..You would do quite well with either. It's a matter of what you prefer and fits you best. Good Luck!

Of all the brands, the Ruger Super Redhawk was designed to shoot 300 grain loads. I have personally seen Taurus revolvers choke on these loads. The cylinder had flown open after the second shot. I have also heard of the top strap stretching and cracking. 240 grain loads are all that are recommended for most revolvers.
If you are going to hunt with it, follow JD's advice and get the one built to last, plus the Ruger comes with a life time warranty, no matter who owns it or how many times it's been sold.
Go to Taurus's website, and read the descriptions of their revolvers. They need to hire an English speaking translater....
If you do buy the Taurus, I hope you can speak Brazilian (close to Spanish, but it has it's differences)

It hasn't been mentioned, but I like the Super Redhawk with the 9 1/2" barrel. It's big, it's ugly, it's heavy and it's double tough. I also hate the factory grips and the trigger will never be as nice as Smith & Wesson's; but a good Ruger smith can make it perfectly acceptable. I use a shooting stick and a 2 power scope for hunting along with a shoulder strap to make it a little easier to lug around the woods.

Several good suggestions. I would add, that I too have several Taurus handguns and love all of them. I don't however have one in .44.
I like to see what guns are going for on gunbroker.com. And no I don't have any affiliation with them. I never purchased a gun there either, but I like to look. It's like a eBay for guns. People bid, the seller may or may not have a reserve price, most have a "buy now" price too.
The gun has to be shipped to a FFL, who usually charges a fee of 20.00 or so.
I have found some good deals in pawn shops too. Its kinda my version of garage sale shopping.......lol
Good luck.

I personally like my Ruger Super Blackhawk with the 7.5" barrel the hunter version because if you are going possibly put a scope on it some day it is ready for a scope and they give you the rings just like their rifles
here is a link to the one I have

You did not say best for what or if you wanted a magnum or 44 special. This is a nice snubnose 44.
