I keep smoking even though I don't want to. It makes me sick, but I can't help it. I want to quit without using any of that quit smoking medication. Do you know a way? A good effective way?

I have heard some people say they weaned off but for me it was and had to be cold turkey and yes it was hard. It has added more years to my life. I believe if you saw an ex ray of my lungs you would see why i was determined.

My friend is a doctor, and he says that his patient have had especially good success using a new medication called Chantix. Several have permanently quit after just 2 or 3 weeks, saying that they had no cravings at all any more. The prescription is for a month's worth of the med. It is important to complete the full month taking the it. If you still have any cravings at all, ask for another month's worth. You can take 3 rounds, if needed. I do not work in the medical or pharmaceutical industries at all, so I have nothing to gain by this suggestion. I am a former nurse and a former smoker, though, and so I understand the complications of smoking cessation. I wish you well. Good health to you!

A friend of mine was able to quit smoking after undergoing a hypnosis session, and he was a hardcore smoker for over a decade. I think that you should give hypnosis a try. Look one up in your area who specifically specializes in helping people quit smoking - it works - no meds required. Remember to look up the credentials of the hypnotist first, because while some are legit, others are not.

The best way to do it is through your own will power. If you want to quit, it will make things easier. Remember that the body has the ability to heal itself. It might take time, but it's effective.

I can think of a bunch of things, but none of them are very friendly. My best advice would be to see your doctor. Your doctor can help you find a way to quit smoking safely.

Good luck and happy days with healthy lungs.

I have a friend who weaned himself off cigarettes. He just smoked a little less each day. You need to keep busy or another friend I had subsituted chewing gum instead of smoking. It worked for him but he ended up chewing alot of gum so your jaws might get tired out.
