A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Proverbs 12:10

How does this apply to rodeos, circuses, test labs, slaughter houses, etc.?

I am not a vegetarian, but after seeing the abuse of these commercial industries, I am very cautious about the meats I purchase by purchasing cage free, organic, free range, no hormones, no antibiotics, etc. It's a start.

If the cruelty of this industry continues, I may become a vegetarian - not because I'm against eating meat or killing animals for food, but because of the cruel practices of today's farming industries.

God never intended for his creation to suffer the way that mankind has forced them to. The only excuse for such torture is the love of money.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

amulet - the true meaning of the verse is that people are to treat animals with kindness. In other areas of the Bible, God says that you should not make your beast carry too heavy a load. In another verse, Christ teaches about the Sabbath day saying that if your animal was trapped or injured, you would help it. God also says he watches over the sparrow. God cares about the animals and placed man over the animals to care for them - not abuse them.

The second part of the verse describes the wicked. They have no kindness in them and are cruel so that even their excuse for kindness is cruelty - like torturing animals for entertainment, cutting up animals in slaughter houses while they're still alive, injuring animals in test labs for no reason as the tests were already proven many years before, the list is very long.

The way in which a person treats animals is a very good indicator of his heart - loving or hateful.

Jesus taught that of all gifts, the greatest is Love.

Possible meaning:

"A righteous man would be kind even to the beasts.
Beware the kindness of the wicked; they are kind only to be cruel in future."

You can judge a man by how he treats his subordinates/pets/animals/ people who are "beneath him".

You know, I have no idea what that means.

Let's see....

I suppose that a rightous man (beleiver, good person) thinks his animals life is just as precious as his. for the second part i am stumped!

I looked it up on a bible translator site. it said this A righteous person cares even about the life of his animals, but the compassion of wicked people is nothing but cruelty.

Here is the site http://bible.cc/proverbs/12-10.htm

HERES A QUESTION!

DID YOU REALLY WANT THE ANSWER TO THIS OR JUST TO HEAR YOUR OWN EXPLAINATION????? It seems you have written and rewritten your own agenda instead of listening to what people have to say!

What it means to me is that the righteous man will treat God's creatures with respect. I cannot speak for God as to what He thinks about rodeos and such, but I can say that the dog fighting rings and things such as that are not the actions of a righteous man when it comes to animals.

this verse is only meant to contrast the righteous with the wicked

the righteous are kind to people , and even animals......but wicked people hurt everyone....even when they pretend to be kind...they are still cruel and treacherous.

rodeos, circuses....??.......are you saying animals are abused there....?? this is not my impression of these events

test labs and slaughter houses.....not necessarily run by "righteous people" anyhow....we are allowed to eat meat...the killing should be quick and with as little pain as possible....no torture....test labs can or cannot be humane....it depends on the investigator....remember scientists are typically atheists..and do not value even human life...

It means wise people aren't cruel, but it doesn't imply that they don't kill. An more specific interpretation is that a wise man is merciful to others and treats his beasts well - once again nothing about not killing or eating the animal.

A righteous man will tend to the needs of his animal and an unrighteous man won't.

Righty wipes his horse down and buys the best grain.

Undy fights his bull dogs.

A righteous man treats his livestock well.

It doesn't apply to rodeos, circuses, test labs, slaughter houses because those are corporate entities, as opposed to individuals

Well, the verse itself doesn't mean much to me since I'm not a Christian. But I do agree with its context and wish more Christians would too.
