I've had a few minor ops with local anaesthesia, so I can help reduce your worries:

You will have a couple of injections around the cyst, these are likely to sting a bit, but it's not too bad and wears off very quickly. The doctor will remove the cyst by cutting around and under it ( you may feel pulling sensations, this is normal, but you won't feel any pain), some of the cyst will be sent off for routine tests. The doctor will then stitch the area back together and place a sterile dressing over the area. He will give you instructions on how to care for it afterwards. You will get an appointment to get the stitches removed. You won't feel groggy as the anaesthetic only affects the local, it will wear off gradually over a few hours, but shouldn't be too painful.

To help yourself better, relax before and during the procedure, take a music player in with you, anything that can help you be distracted from what's happening.

All the best, I'm sure things will go well.

Local anesthesia means that the Dr. will numb the area around where he's going to work; it will sting like a bad bee sting while he's numbing it, but then you won't feel much of anything except maybe some slight "pressure" where he/she is working. After the numbing wears off, you will probably have some pain in the area, but nothing major. They may or may not give you a mild analgesic pain medicine, but usually ibuprofen is best because it kills pain and keeps swelling down. The size of your scar will probably be very small, the procedures they do today are amazing and leave VERY LITTLE scarring. I know it sounds hard, but the more you can RELAX, the easier the entire process will go for you and your doctor. Good luck, I'll be thinking about you... And by the way, you won't be drugged up at all afterwards!

Nothing to worry about, and you certainly wouldn't want that cyst removed without some form of anaesthesia! Local or regional anaesthesia is very safe, and usually safer than a general anaesthetic. Strictly speaking, a 'local' means putting local anaesthetic ("freezing") around the affected area to make it pain free. Many people, however, use the phrase loosely to include regional anaesthesia, which means blocking the nerve supply to part of the body, such as an arm, so the patient cannot feel pain. It's the same idea as the injection the dentist gives you before starting treatment. You will be awake during surgery and many patients feel more "in control" when they are awake, rather than being given a general anaesthetic that would put them to sleep (and which often results in unpleasant after effects). Local anaesthesia often lasts longer than the surgery, providing pain relief for several hours after the operation, and once that wears off you will probably be advised to take analgesics if required. I had a mole excised under a local - felt nothing, experienced negligible pain afterwards and no after effects. Everything will be fine. (For extra reassurance you could visit the site below).

A local anesthesia is a shot of a pain killer to your shoulder, that will numb the area so the doctor can remove the cyst. You won't have any after effects or be drugged up, you will probably be sore in the shoulder area, but you will be able to anything you want, within reason. As for you going to die, I don't feel you will, unless the doctor told you otherwise.

Local anaesthetic just numbs the nerve endings surrounding the area so you don't feel any pain during the procedure it will be injected just under the skin with a tiny needle you will not feel "Drugged up" afterwards you may feel a little discomfort when it wears off just be careful you don't catch it or get it wet etc but it will be covered with a dry dressing any way.
And yes I am afraid we are all going to die, but this wont kill you
Best wishes

It's just a small injection which will numb the skin. It has no action upon the brain whatsoever.

The area will feel slightly sore afterwards, but will heal up in about 4 - 5 days.

Taking a zinc and vitamin C supplement will aid the healing process.

A local is like when you go to the dentist and they freeze your gums.. it only last up to a couple of hours and they only do it in order to stop you hurting while they are removing your crst and there wont be much pain involved afterwards... good luck

They will numb the area with a topical cream, and then, most likely, a shot. It will be a bit sore afterwards, but not painful. You will probably not feel drugged, unless you take a bunch of painkillers.

It won't hurt. I had one on my neck a few years back. It was removed by a local anaesthetic, by a GP. You will be fine. Just rest for a few days afterwards.

"i'm no longer actually a doctor" "I wont be appearing the operation he (an relatively youthful student) would be" "Sorry what technique am i doing returned?" "you have a ninety 5% of no longer waking up"
