Weird questions I know.

I drink heaps and heaps of water. I have like 3 drink bottles going and I drink them all really quickly without realizing how quickly I'm drinking!

The weird thing is I don't pee that much!

I could drink nearly 3 litres of water a day and not wake up in the middle of the night at pee. My Mum thinks it's crazy.

Is this 'normal'?

First and foremost, questions related to medical line should not be asked in such forums because you will get half-baked answers from inexperienced persons. Instead of clarifying, they will confuse you more. For example someone has just said, "Are you diabetic?" In diabetes there is more frequency of urination.

Every body has a different constitution and different needs, some may require more water and some less for normal metabolism. If you do not wake up in the night for peeing it is no problem unless you have constipation or feel lithargic or drained out accompanied by thirst, which indicates dehydration. A thumb-rule to judge relation between water consumption and peeing is: if the colour of urine is abnormally yellow and/or have burning sensation while urinating, on regular basis, indicates dehydration. (Once-in-a-while such occurances are no issues).

Also, those who do lots of physical work need more water. I understand you work for a restaurant where you have to exert a lot as well as you are a sports person, so obviously you need more water.

Similarly, water retention (excess water in the body requiring less consumption) can be judged by this method: Press your thumb on any thick part of your body, if the resulting dent doesn't vanish immediately and remains for two/three seconds, it indicates water retantion. Generally water retention results into obesity also.

The bottom-line is unless you feel sick most of the time and have chronic constipation, you are ok, otherwise must consult a doctor immediately.

This is actually my issue now. But I work out 5 times a week, with each session being over 90 minutes. I drink 2 bottles of water at the gym and by the time I am at the office I can have 2 to 3 more before lunch and probably havent gone to the bathroom til 3 pm for the first time of the day since waking up. I thought it was weird as well but I am healthy.

Drinking Water But Not Urinating

Dear Sarah,

Please don't confuse frequency of urination with volume of urination, i.e., your observations may be the result of effective bladder capacity. Also, bear in mind the human body looses water via the skin, lungs, and sweat glands. These losses will be enhanced by ambient, warm, dry air, direct exposure to sunlight, and exercise.

Furthermore, I don't know what the normal range for daily urine volume. However, specimen bottles for a twenty-four-hour urine sample are one gallon. Therefore, if all three liters of water consumed were excreted via the kidneys, they would easily fit into an ordinary specimen bottle.

Did they check her kidneys, urinary tract. Early stage kidney failure or trying to pass a crystal can cause increased thirst. Go to another vet that is ridiculous that they only checked for diabetes and such a cost. A simple blood and urine sample can tell allot and is not that costly. I took my cat in he had a crystal they gave him medication an iv and kept him overnight total cost 200.00 dollars and he has been fine since then.

If you are dehydrated your body will absorb the water. Pee is a waste product. We waste nothing in water, every part is use able. So you probably genuinely need the water.

I have the same problem as you! Ever since I have been on this diet, I have been drinking heaps. I have not been peeeiing lots though. I don't think we're dietbetic though.

Just ask your local doctor if your really worried, but I think you'll be fine.
