I have also started going camping quite a bit , and i was just wondering what would be the best way to hande washing them when camping. Also , if i was near a river or lake would i be polluing the river/ lake to wash them in it ?

Definitely would pollute the river/lake if you used it to wash them. Not to mention there ar living organisms in the water- wouldn't you run the risk of contamination or rash / infection if you use that water?

The only thing I can think of to do is to treat it like other human waste:

Fill a bucket with lake / river water and boil it for 5 min. or at least add bleach to the water to kill any bacteria. After it cools, hike it in 200 feet from the water source. Dig a cathole, wash the pads out in the bucket and pour the contaminated water into the cathole. Fill the dirt back into the cathole and the water should dilute the fluid into the earth easily. If there are toilets of some kind, I'd dump the water into those.

Have you considered using the Diva Cup instead? It would require less cleaning, washing, drying. You simply rinse it into the cathole, bury the mess, and it's good to go. A small amount of clean water to rinse it out into a cathole and you'd be done.

the ideas previously mentioned are good ones just make sure your catholes are at least 200 feet away from water sources to prevent contamination from rain runoff
